Hi,
Unless you can use external power to the usb 2.0 pcmcia card, a CF-27 probly won't handle the load.
Their power adapters are only 15V and the unit itself is a P2 433 at best. It's just pulling too much power.
Sorry
Good luck
SOURCE: hard drive will not boot, seen by bios but not seen by OS
if you can get into safemode
click start then run
type msconfig
in general tab click normal startup mode load all drivers etc.
then click okay or apply
restart and then if a box appears click do not show again
hope this helps if not let me know
SOURCE: Panasonic CF-51,s are becoming common on Ebay but
I found this via pendrivelinux.com:
http://www.pendrivelinux.com/testing-your-system-for-usb-boot-compatibility/
So try that out. I just got a toughbook cf-51 and will try it soon myself. Mine came with an XP reg code so maybe that can run from a virtual machine inside of linux.
My advice is to resist the urge to drop yours onto cement from a couple of feet. Not quite that tough.
The hard drive caddy is "the catch", for certain.
Too lazy to look into what the hdd connector is for that, maybe there's a cable or converter somewhere.

xp requires at least 1g of memory to run and 10 g of hard drive space, if you dont have this it wont install
Have
you checked under the device manager in to make sure that all
your peripherals are recognized or enabled in the bios
A: Activate Touchscreen in Bios
B: Reinstall all drivers
C: ensure OS is recognizing the peripherals.
Good Luck
