Because you are hearing the lift motor making a noise, it sounds like the gears in the motor are bad. The fix is to replace the lift motor.

SOURCE: Treadmill Incline Works, belt does not move

Check the drive belt. It may be loose or broken. If the belt is loose, then to tighten the drive belt, start by removing the front cover. loosen the bolts around the motor then tighten the drive belt by tightening the motor adjuster bolt. Once the drive belt is tight, tighten the motor back down.

SOURCE: My nordic track treadmill's walking belt stops

Unplug the unit remove the motor shroud inspect the drive belt if the rubber feel slick then my recommendation is to replace the drive belt. Adjusting the drive belt may take care of the problem if you do not need to adjust it too tight. If you choose to do the adjusting and feel you have adjusted the running belt thinking it would resolve the slipping, then back the tension down until it the running belt is slipping then adjust until the slippage is resolved.

SOURCE: I have a Image 15.5 Treadmill, it turn on, Incline...

First we need to do a calibration follow this procedure
Press the Stop and the Speed Up keys down while inserting the safety key.
Press the Stop key one time. The Time window should read EP:2P. Some newer models may also say FP, Pass, or the like. This means that it passes the EPROM test.
Press either incline key and the incline will calibrate automatically.
THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP BECAUSE YOU WILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE IF THIS STEP IS SKIPPED. After completing calibration of incline, press the Stop key and then remove the safety key.
If the incline moves but you it will not operate normally nor calibrate, check the wiring from the incline sensor to the power board. If all looks normal, put it back in calibration and see if you see a blinking “- -” symbol in the incline window when you are calibrating. If not, the incline sensor is bad call icon Fitness @ 800-999-3756, they may have the sensor or they tell you, you need to replace the incline motor

Hi, our proform 790 tr treadmill is aorund six years old and the walking belt and height motor seem to be going. Is it worth replacing these and is it fairly straightforward?

Changing a walking belt takes about an hour for someone who has done it before. Check the walking deck for scratches, damage as well. Often times if the belt is worn out, the deck needs to be replaced as well. Belts vary in price depending on the make and model of treadmill. Parts can be ordered by calling the number found on the model number sticker on the treadmill. There are 10 different machines with the 790t model name. To get the correct parts find the actual model number (will start with "H"). The parts come with replacement instructions.
Belt $105 Deck $190
As for the incline motor, it is very rare to change that part. It may just require calibration. Start the machine . Press incline up and hold, remove the safety key. Now reinsert the safety key. The machine should rise to full incline then back down to minimum. Once the cycle is complete, the treadmill should work normally. If the incline sensor is defective, the motor will have to be replaced. Incline motor $150.

Every time I put the key in my Proform 590T, the incline rises for a second, and lowers for a second while displaying 2 hash marks. Then, the home screen comes. All speeds work fine for walking/running,...

how long have you had this treadmill? usually when the hash marks appear it means that the console control board is not recognizing the incline motor. even though it does run a little bit that is just the basic test that the treadmill starts but resets after it does not sense the incline motor. These motors rarely go bad so it is more than likely your motor controller that is causing the issue. I have seen this case many times as i am a fitness repair technician. The motor controller fixes the issue 9 times out of 10

I have noticed a few times that my f3 life fitness treadmill changes pace on me, and so does the incline. i can see it on the monitor, also it has started feeling like the belt is catching or something, or...

It might just need a simple adjustment of the running belt that can eliminate the slipping refer to you owner's manual for the procedure. It will be close to all treadmill adjustments.
Here is a generic procedure for adjusting the belt:
If the walking belt slips when walked on. Run the treadmill @ 3 to 4 mph, walk for a few minutes, Using the allen wrench, turn both rear roller adjustment bolts clockwise, 1/4 of a turn. Then repeat adjusting procedure until walking belt is properly tightened.

Proform 350s crosstrainer treadmill; surges 3 MPH to 4MPH

Walking Belt is Worn: The only certain way to test for a worn walking belt is to take a DC amp draw (if you have a DC treadmill) or an AC draw (for AC). Trying to look at the belt or a feel test is highly unreliable. Better tests, if you lack a DC ammeter (they are expensive for a good one), are a coast test or an incline test. The coast test is to get on the treadmill as the lowest incline setting and walk on the treadmill at 3 MPH. Pull the safety key and it should take you 2-3 full steps to stop (this is a general rule…some like a few Tunturi models stop on a dime even with a healthy belt but for most models, this tests works well upon). Fewer steps indicate high friction. The incline test is to put the treadmill at max incline and walk on it at 3 MPH. If the treadmill operates normally at max incline but bogs down at minimum incline, replace the walking belt. Gravity takes over for the drive system eliminating much of the friction problem. On some heavily worn walking belts, this test will not eliminate the problem. Go to your local hard ware store and purchase silicone spray. Apply Lubricant by lift one side of the running belt spray contents length wise starting at motor shroud to the back end repeat this process on the other side. If this unit bogs down again then you will have replace the running belt and possibly the deck
