I have an 8600 series electronic dryer and am getting an error code of El followed by F3. What does this mean? The care abs use manual is of NO assistance. It seems to be drying the clothes despite the code.

Make sure you have 240 volts going in. If you do, then it can only be the heating element or the thermo cut off located on the heater housing. Also could be the thermostat on the housing as well. The heater relay is possible, but check that last, it's most likely the element.
SOURCE: drying not drying, clothes moist after hours
This is likely the result of an air flow problem if you are sure the heater is working. Ensure
you are not running the dryer in a closed room which would starve the
dryer of air dramatically reducing the air over the clothes even if the
full length of your vent is brand new. Next, remove the vent
hose from the rear of the dryer and check for strong air flow at the
outlet. If it seems strong enough then run a vent through a window or
out into another room and do one load in this fashion. If this resolves
your problem the blockage exists in the vent line outside your dryer
and disassembling dryer becomes unnecessary.
If not, ensure you
have seen and touched every inch of interior dryer piping and hold the
lint filter up to the light to be sure you can see through it.
Disassemble and clean ANY section of piping you can't get your hand
into. The area below the lint filter tends to catch a lot of lint and
can only be accessed by removing the housing at the rear on the left
side as you face the rear. Ensure the blower wheel turns when the motor
turns. (Newer models may have the filter housing at the front)
Having performed all these actions will likely resolve the problem.

The E1 displayed indicates the thermistor is open and needs to be replaced.
The connections can be loose but the most likely cause of an E1 error is a bad thermistor.
The dryer will not operate if the exhaust temperature drops below 18 degrees F. or exceeds 250 degrees F.
If you're comfortable and confident in your do-it-yourself skills and have access to a volt/ohm meter you can check and replace this part yourself.
The thermistor is available from the following: www.searspartsdirect.com
Enter your model # in the appropriate box to get a full parts break-down and diagrams.
To access the thermistor see the image below.
Remember to unplug the dryer from power first.
The thermistor will have a black and red/white wire on it.
You can check continuity across it with the meter and if the circuit is open then the thermistor needs to be replaced.
When the thermistor circuit is open (>50K ohms), the error code E1 flashes in the display.
When the thermistor circuit is shorted (
Normal thermistor resistance values:
60 degrees F. - 15.3K ohms.
70 degrees F. - 11.9K ohms.
80 degrees F. - 9.2K ohms.
The thermistor -may- check ok when cool and freak out when warm!

Thanks for info, but vent hose not kinked or clogged. I think it was too cold out. There is an error code (different Code) that indicates that if the outside air temperature is less than 18 degrees Fahrenheit. It was colder
