I'm having the same darn problem - the TT One XL just up and quit - having never bothered with map updates or the like. This model has both internal and SD storage. Neither work any better. It's not software, it's firmware. No amount of reinstalling seems to help. It boots and then stops at a light blue screen with a darker blue banner at the bottom. No map, no power button function. Frozen. Yet, it works if you operate it from TomTom Home - map is good, good SAT reception, can even plan a trip. I'm wondering if the touch screen is damaged and keeping it from starting up properly.

At any rate, don't get excited over reinstalling anything. I'm getting around to trying oxpox's approach... except this belongs to my father-in-law. :)

Unfortunatly it is most likely the data on your SD card has become corrupt or the CARD itself had become damaged / faulty. Hopefully you had previously backed up your SD card to your PC ? . if this is the case all you need do is reload your tomtom files from the PC and onto your card. Hope this helps.

Tomtom ONE XL doesnt go past start up screen

You may want to try operating your TomTom from TomTom Home. This has seemed to work for a lot of people who do not have backups, as you are connected to their site. Apparently, a file or two are updated, and you are back in business. Here's an example:

"Though not using a 720 my 500 wouldn't startup after upgrade to 7.16. Always stuck on the first splash screen.

After conncting to Home I chose Operate my Go and another file was downloaded. After this the device would boot up norammly when not connected to my PC.

Might be worth a try."

Start up screen

I had this same issue on my 930. You need to edit the bitmap with paint and make sure the dimensions are the exact same as the splash file. Rename the new splash screen with the same filename for the old startup screen and delete the old. That should fix it

Frozen tomtom

You can get your original splash scren from here. You can also download free splash screens created by user through TomTom HOME.

To correct your device, try:

1. Hit the reset button on the back of the device - inside the serial connector.
2. Make sure the device is off and connect it to your computer via USB dock and connect the charging cable (green light should be on)
3. Hold down the power button until the device restarts.
4. The device should automatically connect to your computer.
5. Run TomTom HOME and check for any updates.
6. If there is no new application, try: www.tomtom.com/9091 <-- that will show you how to remove and then reinstall the application.

GPS 910 HAS FROZEN SCREEN

First, do a reset:

If no result, do a hard reset:
  1. Hold reset button pressed for approx 15 sec
  2. Press power button while pressing reset button
  3. Release reset button while still pressing power button
  4. Device should start, hold power button pressed until you see white text on screen, last line should read "RTC..."
  5. Release power button

Frozen tomtom

Is there a reset button? See this from PocketGPSworld.com: Reset hole The Reset hole is hard to find, you need to first remove it from the mount, turn it upside down, and within the mounting base area of GO you will see two interface slots (currently only one is being used) and towards the front of the unit on the base you will see a little hole marked reset. This is just like soft resetting a Palm or Pocket PC, it requires something small like a paperclip, and nothing was supplied with GO to enable you to easily reset the device.

Frozen tomtom

Try the reset button on the hole in the bottom of the unit. I had a frozen unit after attempting to upgrade and this made it work. Use a paperclip to press into the hole, it will reset the unit.
