How to lock iPad

https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-lock-an-ipad
Locking your iPad requires entering a four-digit pin every time you turn on your device.
Step 1
Select the "Settings" icon from the home screen.
Step 2
Tap the "General" tab on the left side of the screen.
Step 3
Hit "Passcode Lock" on the right side of the screen.
Step 4
Select the "Turn Passcode On" option at the top of the screen. You also can elect to change your password and when it is required.
Step 5
Enter in a four-digit pin that will act as your password.
Step 6
Select "Erase Data" if you would like extra security. This option will erase all data on your iPad if the incorrect password is entered 10 times in a row. You should carefully consider this option because it can be quite risky, especially if you tend to forget passwords.

Have to completely turn my iPad off each time I want to play because it freezes up

There seems to be a software glitch. The best way to fix this is to backup your iPad on iTunes or iCloud first then restore your iPad to factory settings by:
Clicking on the 'Settings' Icon, then General > Reset.
** Remember to make sure you have backed up your iPad as mentioned above **
Finally click on 'Erase All Content and Settings'

Once this is complete you can restore your iPad via the method you used to backup the iPad, either iTunes or iCloud

Disabled ipad

Try a basic reset. It will not erase anything. Make sure the device is not plugged in. Hold the home button & power button at the same time until you see an apple on the screen. This will reboot & relaunch the software. It solves a lot of these performance problems.

My iPad doesn't ring

Your iPad might be muted. Try switching the small switch on the right side of your iPad. It should be above the volume buttons.
