Treo 650 2yrs old - speaker problem

Hi:  Even with the volume up high and the use of the speaker, I can hardly hear the caller.  I've heard this is a problem with these expensive phones.  Any suggestions?  Thanks Michael

Yes. It worked very well for regular phone and headphones but not quite as well for for the speaker. Still a solid improvement though

The problem is a hardware problem. There are a couple of solutions. One is to disable the output jack. This is a hardware solution. You can get Volumecare which will boost the sound but this didn't work for me. Or you can cheat, get your Treo covered under a repair program and make them actually fix it for real.

Speaker not working

Your explanation of the problem is not too clear.
If you receive a call and you cannot hear your caller but your caller can hear you, your speaker is bad and will need to be replaced buy phone technician.
If it is that you can hear your caller but they cannot hear you, then your mouth piece is bad and need to be replaced.
Because of the Miniature nature of the Cellphone circuit there is user serviceable part

Low volume once call is established

Hi,

Try and locate where the volume control of the phone is so that when your making calls, immediately the caller your calling picks up the call, increase the volume by the side of the phone.I think you will hear your caller clearer.

Take care.

No speaker no sound on my treo

I had to have my Treo swapped once already because of a problem with the headset jack. The same problem is happening now - the phone always thinks the headset is plugged in (even when it isn't). That results in phone ringing (unless on virbate / silent mode) but no audio through the speaker in the back, and no speakphone icon appearing.

Given the symptoms you describe I would go to your service provider and (hopefully) get support under warranty - very likely hardware related.

Microphone not working

Hi,

Sometimes you can get moisture in the speaker, try drying it out with hair dryer. Other wise he would have to get the ear speaker replaced. Sorry for the bad news.

Also, check if he has the volume up.

Treo 755 not able to make calls

The only workarounds I've read about these issues is:

1. Plug in the headset again and pull it out crisply and see if that works. Another method I heard, is to stick a toothpick in there.

2. Using the OEM Treo mono headset, insert the jack fully into the socket, spin the jack in the socket 180-360 degrees and remove the jack with a quick jerk. If the socket is truly undamaged, this technique, often repeated, seems to enable the speaker.

3. Some report that the headphone jack adapters, 3.5 to 2.5mm, work for this as well, that has NOT been my experience.

4. VolumeCarePro will bypass the headset switch and is a software workaround.

5. Otherwise, the only way I've been able to 'resurrect' the speaker is by hard reset, and once it took two hard resets.

As a result, I do not use my headset jack on my Treo 755p at all any more.

Unfortunately, this is an area that Palm is aware of, but has done little to fix.

is a hard reset

Problems

Is your call volume turned up? Use the side volume buttons to make sure the speaker volume is up high.

If the volume is high and you still can't hear anything, turn on speakerphone mode. Can you hear anything then?

Can you hear the dings and boops that the treo normally makes while navigating through the menus?

Cannot hear incoming call or caller cannot hear me

First check and adjust call volume. It should set be optimal and secondly during a call adjust the microphone volume. If this is ok and the problem exsist then the microphone, speaker or some other hardware need to be replaced. Contact local hardware expert.
