It sounds like two things.

1. and overheating issues. Make sure fans are working and that vents are free of dust.

2. A motor controller fault

3. the belt is too tight and causing strain which in turn causes overheating of the motor.

I think you have a start/run capacitor issue or your impeller has spun its center out. Check the impeller first. If the impeller is intact, take your motor to your full service pool professional for repair.
