The sensor for this is actually used for both the scanner cover and the ink cover,
there are two flags that both must sit into the sensor to reach a ready state.
If you examine the ink cover there's a small piece of plastic that paths into a hole on the machines frame. This piece of plastic pushes a small black plastic flag that tells the sensor the door is closed.
If it's constantly telling you to close the ink cover inspect both the cover itself to verify that piece of plastic isn't broken and is going into the hole; and look inside and verify the flag isn't broken or damaged (flashlight and a small eyeglass screwdriver help here)
Either can be fixed for cheap at any reputable printer repair shop, I would look for a brother warranty place even if it's out of warranty as they'll be more likely to have donor machines sitting around for spare parts.

well, cut the small piece of black tape (or you can use black permanent
marker) and then cover the sensor of the cartridge, once the device will
ask you to reinstall the cartridge and new system will detect as a new
cartridge
