Maybe it is your DVD drive issue, you may need to update your DVD drive or clean the lens. But you can try to get another DVD player software to play DVDs first. Sometimes the drive is fine.
Could be upper or lower filter. try filtercheck 4.6 to remove them.
I had a similar prob with my inspiron, except that mine could only play/burn dvds. i had to get a replacement drive which dell sent out to me free of charge.
