Halfway through a print run the printer received a slight jolt & the black & yellow toners are now showing a reinstall message with an error 10.0003 message. The 2 cartridges have been working absolutely fine for some weeks even though they are pattern types.

I've seen this before.
Do the test print, from the printer's built in menu system, that shows the cartridge serial number.
You'll find that the serial numbers of the cartridges that produce this 'problem' are a different length than ones that don't.
There is ar firmware update ecommended for HP Color LaserJet 2605 series printers that have a version prior to 20071108. This utility updates the printer firmware version to 20071108. Your printer's current firmware version can be found on the Self Test/Configuration Page which can be printed from the printer's Reports menu.
