SOURCE: close captioning

Hi ckay31,

If your remote is not allowing you to navigate through the menus, you may need to replace the batteries.

If this does not work, in the meantime you should be able to navigate the menus using the menu button on the TV. The Closed Captioning option should display under Channel Settings.

If you are still unable to get your remote to function properly, I recommend you contact Westinghouse Customer Service at (866) 287-5555. You may also view your product's manual at http://www.westinghousedigital.com/pdf/15_User_Manual.pdf

Thank you,

I cant turn off the closed caption...the cc button on the remote does nothing at all and the menu option for advanced closed caption says off but its still on.

Are you watching a DVD or the TV? If you are watching the DVD you may have to turn off Closed Captioning on the DVD. To do this go to the main menu of the DVD and look for Closed Captioning under options. Turn that off.

Trying to put on closed caption on gateway tv 42 inch-a large black screen appears

don't know if CC can be used when watching a DVD. seems to me that it would cause a conflict on the display where the dvd is sending the image which is really not part of the TVs input control options.
CC is usually related to the digital signal from signal broadcasts and not video images coming from an external source. if it was controlled i would think it would be from the dvd remote controller. not the tv.

How do i remove closed caption on tv - can't get menu option on remote to work - thanks.

What is the TV source? Could the captions be coming from that source? If it is, try disabling them from the Menu for the set top box (cable, satellite, DVD).

There is a menu button on the TV that will let you access the OSD if the Child Lock is not enabled.. Then the same directions apply Set > Closed Caption (Off, CC-1, CC-2, CC-Mute). If you can't access the menu directly, then the control board may be bad. Try shopjimmy.com for used parts with minimal wear (sets that were broken in shipping) or another supplier. You will need to open the TV and get the part number of the current board.

I hope this helps.

(the set-top box issue is one I have dealt with. A neighbor with an older TV needed to use the captions from the satellite receiver set to single mode to get captions for the visiting relative. This meant that both sets watched the captions until they were turned off. The main TV still showed the captions if they remembered to reset the receiver to Dual mode.)

Closed Caption is turned on on DVD/VHS player, turned on through the TV. How do you turn the Closed Caption off on DVD

Closed captions only show when you're watching TV. If you're watching a DVD they're called subtitles. Both are controlled by a button on the remote. Closed captions are controlled by a button that's labeled "cc" or "ccd". Subtitles are controlled by a button that is labeled "subtitles" or "sub". Subtitles can also be turned off by going into the DVD setup menu.

Closed caption

Closed caption wont turn off was solved by Bresnan tech. He told me the only way was to push the power button on my remote & then push the menu button right away & it would bring up a white screen & cc would be on it. I could't get it to work so I pushed the power button on my remote & the menu button on my motorola cable box & up came the screen & closed caption was on it. I disabled it & it took off the closed caption. Hope this helps

Closed captioning

I had the same problem. My DVD player was connected to my HD TV via a HDMI cable as was recommended by the DVD owner's manual. I removed the HDMI cable and attached the three video component cables. Bingo, closed caption crossed immediately.
