I have a 50" Vizio that I bought at Costco two years ago, and I am having a similar problem. The screen will go black for a few seconds, but I still have sound. The problem seems to occur more when there are lots of screen changes or brigh flashes (such as an explosion) in the program that I am watching. Any ideas what might be wrong?
It's possible that your sustainers are going bad. These are the two boards that goes vertically on both sides of the TV.
your sustainer is getting bad. Sustainers are the two boards mounted vertically on both sides of your TV. it function is to power up your screen. Changing these two parts will resolve your problem. you can get parts at vizparts.com or vancebaldwin.com

Hi,
it could be an image burn that was caused over time because you pause the screen to much or from a game or pc use.
You can try to clean it by going to the tv mode and go menu and go to set up and go doen to image cleaner.
Try that maybe it will take care of it.
