You'll need to install the printer driver on your computer. From there, the Lexmark software will give you step-by-step instructions on how to install and setup your printer.

Please visit the Lexmark website to download and install the Lexmark X4690 Printer Driver on your computer. Select your operating system > click on "FILTER" > click on the driver under Recommended Downloads > download and execute the file. Simply follow the instructions on your computer screen to complete the installation.

After installing the printer driver, try to print a document to verify that the software is installed successfully.

If this is a new installation of Windows 7 and you have never used the printer on this installation, you will need to install the printer from scratch. If you have the installation disc that came with the printer, pop that into your computer and follow the installation steps. If you do not have that disc, you can look up your specific printer model and download the driver to your computer. Then use the Add Printer Wizard in Windows 7 to search for printers, and if yours is powered on (and both the computer and the printer are connected to your network) it should see it, and then tell it where you saved the driver.

did u try using the disc that came with the printer irrespective of whether u needed it last time or not...? u need the drivers to connect the printer to the laptop and this is what is inside the disc that came with the printer. if u have lost the disc however you could go to the printer's company website and check for drivers necessary to install the printer... they ll surely have it in the downloads and/or support section
