Surface shows that battery is not charging icon flasheson and offwhen chargecord is installed

You should have had in the box with your Surface 3 Tablet a charger. It will have a plug with 2 points that is for your power plug, and at the other end you will have a natty little flat magnetised plug for the side of your Tablet. Mine is at the bottom right slot, looking at the screen of your Tablet. Now when the power is turned on, a small bright light will glow. That is now informing you that the battery in your Surface is being charged. Now at the bottom right of your Task bar, that is the Bar on the bottom of your screen where you can place program short cut Icons for your convenience. Now the speaker Icon which is there toward the right-hand side and has a cross if off, or a different look when on. Now the next icon on its right is the one that tells you how much charge is in the battery, if you touch it, it will come on to the screen informing you how much charge you have in the battery. If I'm using my Surface a lot and I do I keep it on charge while I work as a precaution to keeping my Surface well topped up. Hope this helps.

How long have you had it for and as well does it show the battery icon on the screen when charging if the icon isn't there your charging cord is bad but if the icon is there when charging battery is most likely depleted won't hold a charge anymore you would need a battery replacement most androids are simple for a average person with no experience to replace and eBay would be your cheapest way to go hope this helps

Try a different battery charger.
Maybe you are using a battery charger of a phone.
They have the same plug but different Amperage.
Usually tablets have more powerful battery charger than phones (2.1A instead of 0.5/1A).

The battery charger that you are currently using seems to have enough power just to keep your tablet alive, but not enough to charge it.

You can check on the data written on the battery charger's body the maximum amperage.

That symbol usually indicates the battery isn't charged or charging. It could be a connection problem, a charger problem, or a battery problem.

If you have an extra wall charger, try that first as they don't always last forever. Make sure the plug that connects to your tablet looks clean and not corroded.

If it still won't charge, then chances are the battery needs servicing to make sure the connection is OK or the battery just might need to be replaced.

When you turn off a tablet, it's turned off. Thus, will not automatically illuminate even if it's charging in the background. If you really care to see the battery icon you can press the power button and in some tablets the battery icon will show without necessarily turning on the tablet.

Lightning Strike Symbol means that the battery is charging.
If it is shown even when it is not charging then your charging circuit needs to repaired. Just replace the charging IC not a very high cost. Might cost around 5-10USD.

You are likely running an old version of the firmware / ROM. See if Samsung has a new version, or if you are comfortable with rooting visit XDA Developers forums to learn how to get a newer version with more up to date power management and battery conditioning updates.

the more programs you install and run in the back ground the more the battery is drained. It comes to a point where there are so many programs running the gadget cannot run & charge at the same time. It might charge better if you uninstall a lot of programs or do a factory reset but that is drastic

This is about Gateway M275 battery not chargering problem.
