Westinghouse LVM-42w2 color snow on all inputs

The screen has flickering color snow on all inputs.  It even shows when the TV has no inputs connected.  I posted some pictures here:

Thank you, I am experienced in electrical repair (soldering, etc...). However, for this equipment, I do not know how to check the 3 items you mentioned. What steps do you recommend?

  • williams4895 Jun 12, 2009

Great. I have repaired electronics and another TV using instructions from FixYa expert. I have most of the tools and can get the ones I dont have. How do I start?

  • williams4895 Jun 14, 2009

I posted the pictures to the same location as my original pictures. I posted pictures of the power supply and detailed pictures of the mainboard. There are 2 boards that you can see on the side of the main board of the TV that I didn't include. They are under a cover that I didn't remove. Please let me know if you need pictures of these also.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

I would like to resolve this quickly. Will it be easier to replace the mainboard (or the power supply board)? If so, where is the best place to buy one?

Hello williams4895,

I have seen this problem before, it is caused by RF interference. For it to be this severe it appears that it is an internal RF issue which means that there may be problems with high frequency signal decoupling capacitors used to decouple RF/IF signals from the power supply that feed said such stages of the TV. This is going to require that you use an oscilloscope to determine if RF/IF signals are present on the power supply rails. However this is looking like according to your pictures as the problem I am describing. In this case it will be a slow process to determine the cause of the interference, since it may involve more then capacitor, and maybe you catch a break and it might be due to one decoupling capacitor.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Westinghouse tv to fix mod #lvm-42W2 .Does anyone have a schematic diagram for this TV .The fault is top half of the screen is blurred and the bottom half good in the presence of picture .Thanks WA.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

Some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.

White spots tv screen

Bright and dark spots on screen might be due to the fault of the screen itself. In some cases, it will be reparable. Contact any service technician, because, if it is a repairable fault, the panel might need to disassemble.

Resolution Difficulties

If you are using cable and a cable box or a satellite box, the setting must be done on those. The TV only reproduces 720p because that is what the incomming signal to it is.
