SOURCE: water collecting in bottom of freezer coming from back grill.

To poshodian: There are a few more posts about this problem. Of course, in order to fix it, you have to remove the panel hiding the condenser coils behind the grill and showing the drain hole.

This is what I just posted on one of them:

I’ve had my Maytag 2454 fridge for 8 years. But only this week did the same problem show up as cathy824 and lew223. When I poked a drink stirrer into the top of the drain hole, it was hard as a rock. Not knowing why condensate from the coils was not draining into the hole and tubing that would empty the water into the pan evaporator on the bottom of the fridge, I took everything apart in the back and messed around with the black rubber elbow at the other end of the drain plug. I shouldn’t have bothered, because what I finally did was to pour boiling, boiling hot water over the drain hole to melt the ice and gunk that was frozen solid in the drain tubing. While I was doing that, I poked the stirrer into the hole, washing the gunk down the drain and into the very dry evaporator pan. Keep pouring hot water into the drain hole until you’re satisfied that water can flow freely into the pan.

That solved the problem of condensate water freezing on the bottom of the freezer and running onto the kitchen floor. Thanks to lew223 for the fix! The fridge should be good for another 8 years now.

SOURCE: Maytag refrigerator is leaking water

Your freezer has a drain that leads to the exterior drain pan beneath the unit. Occasionally this drain can become clogged resulting in standing water inside your freezer, due to line freeze over. This can, also, cause a run-off, as stated in your post. In the freezer, standing water will become ice and may result in defrost problems or inadequate coldness.

You will need to Clear the drain by forcing a solution of water and bleach or water and baking soda into the drain line with a basting syringe. If the solution will not flow through, slide a length of ¼ inch flexible tubing into the drain tube to push the clog through to the drain pan. Remove the tubing after clearing the clog. This will correct the issue.

The drain is located either on the floor of the refrigerator, beneath the vegetable crisper, or in the wall behind a drain funnel.

NOTE_It is important for the refrigerator to be level. If it is not level, doors may not open or close properly and may not seal tightly. Also, drainage from the defrost cycle might be impaired as might the ice making cycle. The appliance was engineered based on it being installed in a level position. While there may be some tolerance for out-of-level installation, the appliance will operate at its best when properly leveled.

Place a level on top of the refrigerator near the front. Do not put it on the door because the door may not be aligned with the refrigerator case. Check that the refrigerator is level from side to side. Next turn the level to check that it is level from front to back.

If it is not level, adjust one or more of the adjustable leveling feet until it is level. The feet are bolts that can be turned to raise or lower the refrigerator. If they cannot be adjusted with your fingers, use a crescent wrench or pliers.

If you have an ice-maker, it should also be checked for level after first leveling the refrigerator. An ice-maker that is out of level will spill water into the ice bin or into the freezer. It can be repositioned by loosening the mounting screws, adjusting it for level and then re-tightening the screws.

SOURCE: Leaking water out of the front door of the freezer.

check to see if the drain line is clogged or mold / foreign matter is keeping it from draining to the pan underneath where it evaporates.

SOURCE: Water leaking from front base of freezer

Clean the drain pan and drain line in the back of the freezer section underneath the evaporator coil. Make sure water drains when you pour it in. If it doesn't - also clean drain tube on the back of the unit behind the cover. When done - put the tube exactly where it was.
Good luck! :)

GE side by side leaks water from underneath when you use the water from front door

you need to remove the toe kick panel grille below the front doors on the refrigerator behind this grille there is a connector and it can come loose, also possibly the water valve in the lower rear behind the back panel can leak, have a helper press the door paddle for water and check all these areas for leaks,if it leaks from the door stem where the water line goes up the door to the dispenser, then you will need to pull new hose up to the dispenser from the collar mentioned at first, some refrigerators can not have new hose installed due to the door has been foamed internally at the factory and cant be dis-assembled,then you would need a new door with the hose installed

My KitchenAid KBFA25ER Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator freezer is leaking water

just had mine repaired it is a duct bill grommet that is clogged. Found out it is common and easy to repair. My part was w10309238. Took the repair man less than 5 min. You need to pull the frig out, unplug take off the bottom pannel mine was bottom right. A small socket screwdriver is key, look for a funnel running top to bottom, in side there is the duct bill nipple that is clogged with debrie or stuck with stickly stuff like juice. Remove and replace then seal up and defrost for 24 hours by opening the freezer door.

Hello, lost water in the house, now when came back on, water dispensor has a slow drip... the dispensor handle seems to be working fine... it dispenses water when pressed.. doesn't seem to stay...

If you take the bottom grill off the front of the appliance -1x Philips screw either side- under the freezer door you will see where the water pipe goes through the hinge. follow that pipe back towards the underneath of the machine and you should come across a push-fit connector.

The pipe leading through the freezer door from the connector, and blow down it, re-fit, press dispenser paddle to allow to flow. This stops the drip in 9/10 instances.

If not you may need to have someone check the water valve for slight blockage.

How to take the front grill off?

the grill should just snap off with a pull, evenly from both sides. If coils can be accessed from the front, there are no more coils in the back. The screwed on cardboard in the back is covering a fan so it can pull air directly over the compressor and evaporate the water in the drain pan. You should periodically check to see if water is draining into the pan, if not, the evaporator may be getting heavy ice build up, therefor not cooling 100%

Water leaking from inside the freezer

if the bottome of the freezer floor is frozen then the most common cause is that the defrost drain is cloged, the back wall will mostlikley need to be removed and defrosted, then i use hot water & a long zip tie to make sure the drain is clear, don't use anything too hard as to punch a hole in a drain hose.
