You're using dual monitors and one is black? If so-- when you switch the cables on the monitors.. the same monitor stays black? This sounds like bad monitor. If I understand you right.
I had the same problem with this monitor (Samsung 943nw) When turned on it would only stay on for less then a full second. When shining a light on the screen I could see what was on it, so it was just the backlight that was shutting down.
After I turned down the brightness of the monitor, the next time I powered on the screen the backlight stayed lit and it was back to normal.
that means your VGA is not big enough to run the game. This problem is not from the monitor but your system.I suggest an upgrade in your system to enhance better performance.
Could be a power issue. If it doesn't show anything at all then that may be the case. It may also be the display itself. It would be a costly repair so you might be better off finding a new monitor.
My issue is similar.. however after trying a couple of times it will work. (yes everything is plugged in) It will function for a good 10 minutes before just powering off (blackout) screen. If you attempt to turn it on after it blacking out, the blue led for the power button will blink a couple of times and it will remain off. However if you wait 5-10 minutes and turn it back on, it will repeat itself...
I have it hooked up to a radeon X1650 graphics controller as a secondary digital controller, and its hooked up by VGA cable.
I also have two other displays besides this one (one primary and extended that dont have any issues whatsoever.. they continue to function while the syncmaster 193p takes its time snoozing.... please help.
