UNKNOWN TONER INSTALLED PC - Kyocera FS1028 Laser Printer

If you're getting an "unknown toner" error when trying to use non-genuine cartridges, it's likely that the chips on those cartridges are not compatible with your printer. In some cases, you may be able to reset the printer to get it to work with the non-genuine cartridges, but it's not always successful. The best bet is to use genuine Kyocera cartridges to avoid any issues.

I am not sure about Kyocera but some companies embed in the firmware of the printer and on the toner catridges a code that prevents you from using cartridges from one country in another printer. They do this to limit people importing cartridges from a country where they sell them cheaper to countries where they gouge users. Unless you can rechip them, check ebay or you got a defective lot of toners (possible) you may have to source local product.

Leave the machine working to see the next message of Adding Toner. Usually the next message of "Adding Toner" is "Ready to Copy".
If the next message is "Add Toner", i suggest you to pull the new toner kit out and push it a little bit harder and check again.
If you power the machine off and on again, can you see what the message about toner is, Original or Unknown Toner is installed?

it just means your using generic toner instead of oem you should be okay just don't mix oem with generic or you will get a host of machine failures

Kyocera use an RF chip in the toner Cartridge if you are not using origional toner you will get this message

Unknown toner installed. PC

Solution

There is a little black sticker on the bottom of the toner cartridge about the size of two postage stamps side by side. This sticker identifies the cartridge to the machine. Remove this sticker and the machine will still display the Unknown Toner message for a few seconds but then become operational.

You wont have any problem with this unknown device. Unknown device is problem if this unknown device is VGA, sound, LAN etc There are many devices in comuter which are not as essentailly required. So enjoy :)

Is the Toner OEM (new from xerox) or remanufactured? Make sure that the tab that you have to push down on the toner is firmly in the locked position. Reboot the machine and see if that fixes your problem. If it doesnt put the old carridge back in see if the error persists. If it doesnt then you could have a defective toner cartridge.

It must be some compatible toner on toner which are made from other company and not from ricoh on the label dose not write nothing some times.
