Red means TV on standby. TV remote not working. Check the transmitter LED flashes by viewing remote on a digital camera or phone whilst pressing the buttons. The invisible light will flash purple viewed from the camera.
Something is causing the TV shut down or go in to 'protect' mode.
It is unusual to actually hear a component inside the TV go bad, but you obviously did. Probably in the main power supply or something that normally uses a higher voltage in the TV since you heard it..
Theaterview suggests a rear projection--in that case it most likely is in the convergence circuit--unsolder chips (convergence) and see if set turns on.
Some of their regular TV sets (picture tube) if the light is just blinking means the same thing=shutdown because of a short/problem but a model number would tell me which you have.
Most of the time when this happens the power supply for the set has failed and is not getting enough voltage to operate the set. A very common problem among all the brands. It could also be overheating and not letting the set come on to protect itself. The blinking should be in a pattern like morse code, find out how many blinks your getting and which color light is blinking and check your manual for the reasons or check back here for more info if needed.
Called Tv tech. He said it was the power supply connectivity. common problem in rear projection Tv's. Cost to replace was anywhere between $300.00 and $400.00 dollars. Time for a new tv :-(
Happened to my tv too and i have the same one. Theres nothing you can personally do about it, you got to call someone that repairs T.V's it will cost you about $350.
