Ariens 1742- blades will only engage while moving. Once you bring arms to neutral the blades stop.

The problem likely is with the SEAT/PTO RELAY not remaining energize. Look for open or disconnected wire (PURPLE) from the relay towards the ignition switch.

I have a Ariens EZR 1440 mower. The right wheel turns normally and correctly in forward but in reverse it barely turns. The left is fine. What is involved in repairing or correcting this problem?

Well without turning over the mower and inspecting the drive for the wheel I would have no idea.

When turning on pto blows the fuse

Look over the entire wiring harness wherever it may be touching metal as it probably is chaffed, simply tape and zip tie it away from the ground source.

My 1999 Ariens EZR 1742 will not move. Cranks and

if both belts are present are they both moving? Could be tensioner froze up and it is not applying tension. mine had and i had to remove and free it up.

There is one common problen that causes this. Infront of the rear wheels there are two housings for the indepentent hydrostatic transmissions. There is one gold colored shaft with a ninety degree angle on it sticking out from EACH of the housings on the top front. Again these are on both sides and they each need to be pushed downward so that the rods can then be pushed backward into the transmissions to inguage them so both of the wheels are powered. Give this a try.

If that does not help there are belts that drive the pumps to work the transmissions make sure the belts are tight and running the pumps if everything is working and transmissions are still unresponsive the pumps may need to be replaced.
