I have a 2005, 42" toshiba LCD model 42DPC85 that when we turn it on everything is good except the whole screen is black but imediatly the colors dot by dot start making the black disappear, it only took about 5 minutes for the black to disappear with color but as time went on it took longer and longer until finally the color just wont come on. Any ideas?

You need a new DLP chip. The chip has little mirrors that are black on one side and white on the other side. When the chip wears out , your screen will turn white one dot at a time or black one dot at a time or they may just all stick shut at once. Since your screen is black, all your mirrors are closed. You can buy the chip from shopjimmy.com and they have a video of how to replace the chip so you can do it yourself. It takes about 1 1/2 hours. The chip is about $160. To have this service done for you is about $200. Do it yourself and save the money. Your tv will be just like new again. Just make sure the chip is in perfectly level or when you turn your tv back on, your picture will be slanted. you won't notice it on the picture itself but words on the screen or scrolling messages and the menu will be slanted.

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main board.

Can i access netflix using toshiba model 42DPC85?

You cannot access netflix using a toshiba model 42dpc85. You would need an xbox, wii, roku or something like a bluray player to connect to the television in order to access netflix.

Will not turn on just keeps flashing red dot on center button

I've tried everything except replacing parts on a component level. I don't have a digital volt meter so cant measure what is working. Visually checked all the capacitors and it all looks good. Don't really want to replace the whole power supply cause everything is still good. What can I do, and if push comes to shove, where would i get a power supply from and what part number would it be.

I have green and red dots especily with dark background

it sounds like you have "stuck pixels" it can be somewhat common on lcd screens.

I would recomned using a "fix it" program or dvd to try and get some(if not all out) There are several free/cheap ones out there.

you can try :jscreenfix if you can get a computer hooked up to your display. You can also find several solutions free :HERE

Yes i have a black dot on my new 2008 toshiba notebook.Do you know how to fix it.

If it is just one pixel that is black, you cannot do anything about it. It is what we call a "dead pixel". The best thing to do is to send it back in to the manufacturer and get a free replacement.

It's not the answer you wanted to hear, but again, there is nothing you can do about it.
