The sound card can be an onboard chip, built into the motherboard or a card installed into the mother board and thus more information is needed to assist you. You can get into device manager and delete the sound card driver/ items and then restart and windows could redetect it, or you can get the proper driver package from the motherboard, computer, or sound card manufacturer to reload it. I also can remote into the computer to determine what's wrong and attempt to fix it.
Can you give more info on the computer, motherboard, sound card or manufacturer of system ?
