I have a new pc with Windows Vista but a cannot get my Dell A920 to connect to it.  The driver disc that came with the printer is not installing correctly because I believe it only works for previous Windows editions.

GOT NEW PC WITH WINDOWS VISTA HOOKED UP OLD PRINTER DOES NOT WORK I WENT TO LEXMARK WEBSITE DOWNLOADED UPDATED DRIVERS TO COMPLY WITH WINDOWS VISTA , I CAN PRINT BUT MY ALL IN ONE CENTER WO'T WORK I GET AIOC EYE HAS STOPPED.

  • Girl_Jami Mar 28, 2009

The driver for the Vista operating system only works for a 32-bit OS. You can go to the dell website and get the vista driver and the patch/upgrade.

Unfortunately, for me, is that I bought a 64-bit operating system. I can get the print function to work, but will never be able to get the other 2/3 of the "all-in-one" to work ever again. I called Tech Support, took me over 20 minutes to get someone, and he actually tried to SELL me a Vista-compatible dell printer. NEVER AGAIN will I buy dell. They suck.

  • AJ83 Apr 02, 2009

After dealing with DELL support for over an hour... it appears that there will be NO updated drivers for Vista 64-bit systems. I am mad as hell that they are not supporting their own hardware. I know they want me to just buy a new one, but come on! AND I have a fleet of unused printer cartridges. ANYBODY know of ANY solutions?

BTW... The printer worked just fine until I uninstalled the drivers to 'update' them due to a conflict with another program. Now I can not install ANY drivers (from Disc or from DELL)!

  • Anonymous Apr 26, 2009

Thanks for the advice... so.. I am basically screwed having just purchase a Vista 64-bit OS (from DELL) and want to interface to my existing A920. Perfect! Dell Strikes again.

    drivers listed on "http://support.euro.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WLH&osl=EN&catid=-1&impid=-1&servicetag=&SystemID=PRN_ALL_A920&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en"
do not give the acces to the "all-in-one centre"

I have tried, after removing my old driver thanks to the "clean up application"

I can now print with my inspiron 1721 (Vista),
but the buttons on my A920 do not work
so, I cannot Copy nor Scan documents.

Can anybody give me a solution to fix this problem ???

    Thanks

    Lo

Believe it or not... the driver is buried on the Dell site for Vista 64-bit. I search and searched ... and there it was.

http://support.us.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R153048&formatcnt=1&libid=0&fileid=203948

In any case, I downloaded it, installed it, and it works fine. All the buttons (scan/copy) on the top work as well as printing. Now if I could just get my old XP machines to print to it on the network. But.. I think that is another thread.

I am evaluating Windows 7. I have some tips from getting my Dell A920 AIO printer to work with it. I believe this would apply to Vista as well. I was receiving the nasty "AIOC has stopped working". I tried several of the internet tips, but to no avail. OK, the bad news, I had to reinstall Windows 7 from scratch. It seems that if you try to install the XP printer drivers, you're toast. Even though the Dell website has a cleanup tool for the XP drivers, I think it is overlooking something.

To get my Dell A920 to work with Windows 7, I downloaded the Vista 32-bit drivers here...

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?os=WLH&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1&hidos=WLH&TabIndex=&SystemID=PRN_ALL_A920

It is the "Dell - Driver" download. Be sure to indicate Vista 32-bit .

Next, while installing Windows 7 from scratch, I disconnected the USB to the printer, so Windows would not "discover" it and attempt to install its own drivers.

Then, with Windows 7 installed, I temporarily disabled my network adapter. Again, we don't want the Microsoft's drivers when it sees the printer appear the first time.

Finally, I installed the "Dell - Driver" listed above and successfully tested the scanner and printer by hitting one of the Copy buttons. After re-enabling the internet, I was off and running.

Now, it was quite drastic to re-install the o/s. So, this is just a solution that worked for me. But, I can say a Dell A920 will work in Windows 7, which is based off of Vista. It just is not as straight forward as it should be if you happen to get the wrong drivers installed initially.

If you are able to print and just want your scanning capability (All-In-One Center software) back, do not bother uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling the drivers. After 4 hours of this, the problem still wasn't solved.
What worked for me -- and was a quick fix -- was opening Paint. (Go to Start menu, Programs, Accessories, Paint).
Once in Paint: 1) with the the printer on and connected to the computer, go to File, then click on "From Scanner or Camera" 2) click on the link "Adjust picture quality" to set the DPI, contrast, brightness, etc.
I was able to save the scanned picture as a 600 DPI color JPG.
Hope that helps.

Thanks a ton, Syanne! That fix worked for me--after spending over four full hours messing with unistalling, installing, uninstalling, restoring (my HP), then installing...Ugh! This fix will definitely work for me, as I could definitely print and such with my DELL printer (hooked up to my newer HP computer), but none of the scan buttons (or the "All-in-One" software on the computer) would work for me. Got it now. Again, THANK YOU!

Apparently a lot of people are having major problems installing the driver for A920 on windows vista systems, so i called and I got through to tech support, they walked me through the steps, he actually logged himself inside my laptop uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it!!  My printer now works!!!!  If you guys are having problems call tech support they can help you, but what I also found out was Mac is NOT compatible!!  Nothing will work.. When you call into Tech Support have your Service Tag number ready, it is listed on the back of your printer, the last set of numbers..it is very important to have that number so if the Tech guy has to log into your computer then that number will be required to do so. I hope this helps and solves everyones frustrations about Vista!!!

Solution # 5 WORKS !!!!!! Unplug the printer from PC. Download the Vista drivers. Unplug PC from Internet. Plug printer back into PC. Then install. Hook back up to internet. Buttons on top still won't work...but you can send commands from the PC. Bought me some time to find a new printer....."sigh"

With all this trouble, just buying a new printer will solve the problem with Dell A920

  • Renee Clemons Mar 16, 2008

Same AIOcexe not responding popped up too....after I installed the driver it froze my laptop so I shut it down and just about threw the computer across the room...I restarted checked my printers folder and there was my Dell A920 I clicked "Default Printer" and printer has performed correctly. There are times suddenly the printer stops communicating so I unplug it and turn it back on or restart the damn computer and all is well until the next non-communication. I did however install reinstall delete and install again and it worked! Frustrating!

Uninstall and try re-installing the Vista driver(At the Dell site) while the printer is disconnected from computer. Connect the printer (USB port) when the install program tells you to. The install program finds the printer, makes one little adjustment and then you cabn re bpoot your machine while the printer is connected and ON. I have had no major problems by doing this only when I two side print - the re-insert paper message comes up through interactive services.

  • tkreigh Nov 24, 2010

If you've installed Vista 64-bit or Win7 64-bit, the driver you need (as of now) is at:
    http://www.userdrivers.com/Printer/Dell-...

Click R153048.exe and it will kick off the install. Dell has apparently disowned support for this old inkjet.

Printer/Scanner/Copier functions, they will all work.

I downloaded R153047.EXE from Dell's website and installed it. After doing that I can now print from Windows Vista Ultimate (it solved the "cannot communicate" problem). However the buttons on the printer STILL do not work to bring up the All-in-Once Center software. I can scan using "Windows Scan and Fax" and it works fine. The only problem seems to be the All-in-One Center software that doesn't work therefore causing the printer buttons to do nothing.

It isn't great but that's how I got it to work. Hope this helps.

Sorry I didn't post a link directly to the file, but I already closed the browser window where it was. :)

Dell A920 Inkjet Printer is not communicating with an HP Pavillion dv6700 laptop with Vista Operating System

It could be related to Vista. Check Dells website to see if they have a Vista driver for it.

If you have another USB Cable you can try swapping it.

If you have a spare USB Port, you can try swapping that as well.
