I cannot format the memory card I just purchased for the hp 320 photosmart

The HP Photosmart 320 camera is too old to accept a 2 GB card. It can only handle an SD memory card up to 128 MB. If you are receiving a "The card requires formatting" message do the following:

Press ( ) to display the Format Card option in the Delete menu. This will delete all data on the card.

Try to get hold of a usb card reader that support your memory card and format it on your pc, both the camera and the card reader is using the FAT 32 File System to format. The one i use is a Transcend RDP8 and can take five different cards

Always format the card in the camera, never in the computer. Use a separate card reader to download to the computer.

Can you put the card in your pc and format it? You may have to erase the pics you have before formating it but usually it erases them for you while formatting.

if there is a little slide on the side of the card try moving it to its other position either up or down

Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com

2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.

3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.

4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.

5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.

6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

Check the card and see that the little slide switch on the side is moved to the unlock or clear position. You try to delete images off another card to see if it is the camera that is defective. Is it still under warranty?

it needs to format it to allow it to read by the camera...a sort of hand shake..so format it and go shooting

Try taking the SD card out then plug the camera into the p.c then format the internal memory.
