I have a Uniden 520xl 1987 model. The leds only light up when I push to talk and don't when receiving. I adjusted the signal pot but nothing.

The IC is a basic level detector, and you may not have AGC action, which is what would be what is needed for it to respond. Clean the usual controls with contact cleaner and look for faulty solder joints in the recieving section IF stages, primarily the AGC buss and, the detector diodes- also check them for excess leakage. and first audio stage where AGC voltage is usualy tapped.

What does the "RX" mean on the display? How do

RX means that the radio is receiving a signal, this will put most of the cobra 2-ways into a locked state. many of the cobra models have an issue were after a bit of use, they will seem to receive a "mystery signal" sometimes, carefully taking the radio apart and cleaning out the inside with canned air will help, you may also check the terminals that the batteries connect too, otherwise the SoC (system on a chip microcontroller) likely has an issue.

My laptop works using my Belkin router, but my desktop will not connect to the internet

hello

your notebook has WiFi, which is radio frequency internet, it transmits and receives radio signals (frequencies) . Your desktop, most likely, does not support WiFi on its own , so you need to use RG45 cable , ethernet cable to be connected from your desktop to the router.
lan-cable-rg45-cat5e-cat6-utp-ftp-acr2101-.jpg

So in other words thsi is what happens with your notebook and the router.
  1. your notebook has built in wireless adapter which translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna.
  2. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection, to your modem (supplied by your Internet Service Provider)
The process also works in reverse, with the router receiving information from the Internet, translating it into a radio signal and sending it to the computer's wireless adapter.

The radios used for WiFi communication are very similar to the radios used for walkie-talkies, cell phones and other devices.

you need to connect your desktop to the router via RG45 ethernet cable.

My receiver comes on and I get the error message "Acquiring Signal" and everything appears to be connected. Just started doing this. Using the Aux. jack in my Nissan.

First...you still need a sirius antenna plugged into the device. If you just started using this you may just need to resend the signal. Just call the sirius/xm people and follow the recorded prompts to send a new satellite signal. Then make sure you are parked somewhere that it is receiving a good signal and wait. It could take up to 30 minutes to reset completely.

Lap top wireless signals

Check to make sure the card is seated properly in its slot, that the radio is enabled and on, that the antennae wires are firmly connected to the cards leads and that they are connected in the right order.

No tuner output

Some home theatre receivers will not output sound until you ( LOCK INTO ) a radio signal, be sure you have a antenna connected and are receiving a strong signal. Unlike the older model you would receive static sound until you found a station.

XM reciever FM transmitter problem

hi Mr.Frazier....is the xm radio hardwired installed? if it's a yes you have to go to a professional(bestbuy, retailers) to have the connection check.. the problem is not within the xm radio..it's on how it was installed or set up...

If the radio was not built..well, that's much better we just have to check the audio connection from you're xm to fm radio (make sure to check if what band it is connected..such as AUX,CD etc.) if there's a sound but you're only getting preview channels..refresh must be send on the radio...you can call xm to ask for that OR do it online at www.refresh.xmradio.com and type in your 8 digit radio I.D just have to follow the activation instruction faithfully...Godbless!
