Wash motor does not run: Inlet/Drain error

The wash motor does not run. Water fills the base of the dishwasher and after that the Inlet/Drain light flashes. If you restart the machine, it first drains the water and then refills it before flashing the Inlet/Drain light again.

There is no problem with the inlet or outlet. I have checked to see if any of the pipes are blocked and there seems to be no problem there. I haven't removed the main pump to see if it is jammed - is this likely? Or is it something else?

how do you drain the water that collects @ the bottom of the d/w? i have the same problem - so frustrating for such a costly machine

We have established that the wash pump has seized but don't seem to be able to find a new one around here (remote-ish part of South Africa). Thanks anyway for trying. At the moment our dishwasher is a useful place for stacking laundry...

My Bosch SGS6302GB/07 Was running when we had a power cut. Since then it will not complete a full hot wash cycle, only the Quick wash. When trying to run the full 65 deg programme it runs for a while (about 30 minutes) then cuts out with all the power lights and indicators extinguished. Water is left in the base. If we leave it for 10 mins or so it can be restarted but will still not finishe. Can't understand why power cut caused this problem - we've had it for many years and prior to that has worked perfectly. It seems to be some form of overheat/ thermal safety cut out. The drain is clear - often on restarting it will immediately drain fully. No obvious blockage in filter or outlet pipe.

Wordhog: Does sound like a siezed wash pump to me. Wash motor needs to run to get the correct level of water.

To drain a Miele dishwasher, start the machine on a cycle. All the Miele range of dishwashers drain before filling. Then hold in the start button until the end/finish light is lit. Keep doing this until all the water has gone. You could just get a jug and bail it out. Once the jug does not do the job anymore, switch to a cup, I use a very large syringe for the remaining half a litre.

Pumps water in don't wash and pumps out again

Not sure whether a schematic will help unless you have some understanding of the location of the components. It would help if you are able to clarify what you mean by pumping in. Usually you should hear the water inlet valve turn on to let water in. Then the wash motor should run to churn the water around and then the drain pump should drain the water out. What is happening is the dishwasher is leaking water as soon as it fills. This causes the flood switch to turn on and that triggers the drain pump to empty the water. Usually Bosch dishwasher have an inline water leakage detector. Check under the sink where water inlet tap is located. There is a device connected through which the water get in. The hose is detecting leakage. Need actual model number of the dishwasher to investigate.

I have a year old kitchen aid dishwasher and during fill cycle it makes a thumping noise. The dishwasher every 5 or 10 seconds shuts off fill cycle then turns back on which I think is what's causing...

Drain Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain pump might be defective or might have some debris in it. This is a common problem.

Circulation Pump

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the circulation pump sound, it's likely that the circulation pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the circulation pump will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Drain Impeller

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, the drain impeller might be broken, or there might be debris in the pump. Generally, to gain access to the pump the top of the pump housing will have to be removed.

Pump and Motor Assembly

If the dishwasher is loud the motor bearings, drain impeller or wash impeller might have worn out. All three of these components are part of the pump and motor assembly. It may be possible to replace one of the impellers, but the motor bearings cannot be repaired. In that case the pump and motor assembly will need to be replaced.

Wash Impeller

The wash impeller is a small, plastic blade. The motor spins the impeller forcing water through the spray arms to clean the dishes. If one or more blades has broken off of the impeller the dishwasher is loud. The impeller can also scrape against the pump housing if it is damaged, warped or bent.

Circulation and Drain Pump Motor

If the dishwasher is loud during operation, and the noise is a continuous drone similar in speed to the motor sound, it's likely that the circulation and drain pump motor bearings have failed. Once this happens the motor will have to be replaced, the bearings are not repairable.

Water Inlet Valve

The water inlet valve is an electrically controlled water valve. When it is new, the water inlet valve is very quiet. Over time, the diaphragm inside the valve deteriorates and deforms. This deformation interacts with the water rushing in and can cause a loud vibration, buzzing, squealing or other noises. If the dishwasher is loud during the filling cycle, replacing the water inlet valve may solve the problem.

Our fisher and paykel dishdrawer won't wash. It comes up with F1 and flashing light on control panel.

the dynamo dishwashing stuff has caused foaming which reached the base of the dishdrawer unit causing the flood switch to trip. This gives F1 error.
Not sure how much foaming has occured.

Best to turn off power and take power cable out from socket. then empty the drawer using towels. pull out the bottom drawer and wait a day or so to let the foam disappear from the bottom of dishwasher (under the bottom drawer). Connect the power and see if F1 had gone. If not, you need more work. Post a comment based on the above suggestion and I will guide you further if required. Always use Finish dishwasher power only (recommended quantity) as the drawers are small and don't need much detergent.

Miele dishwasher Model G1023 drain light stays on and dishwsher will not work

Hello fellow DIY'ers,
Have just had the red light drain/inlet error terror!
Tried all the basics, including:
- check and clean inlet hose filter,
- check and clean drain hose,
- remove and clean all the filters in the bottom, and
-remove and clean the non-return valve.
Still was left with water in the bottom at the end of the wash and the red light drain/inlet error.
After researching further I found that this light also indicates a flooded unit. There in a shallow pan in the base plate and if water collects there it activates a float switch, stops the wash, and lights up the drain/inlet error.

To fix it:
- Disconnect power, water and drainage.
- Pull out your dishwasher, suction/remove all the water from the bottom. This includes the water in the salt reservoir, the drain pump and non-return valve.
- Tip the dishwasher onto its back.
- Remove the four star head screws (sometimes a small flat blade screwdriver will fit these) from the base plate.
- Remove and inspect the base plate. It won't have any water in it as you've just tipped it up. But you will see if it's wet and any staining where the water has sat. It only takes a small amount of water to activate the switch.
- Clean and dry the base plate.
- Have a good look around for leaks in the base of the unit. There was none in mine. Our dishwasher is a snug fit under the bench and we had been doing 2-3 washes per day for several humid weeks leading up to this problem. I believe the water builds up over time and doesn't get a chance to evaporate.
- Put it all back together again and test it.
- If it works, go buy yourself/your family dinner because you just saved yourself about $420!

Regards,

DIYTom

No water is coming in the dishwasher. I can hear the water running, but the water is not coming into the dishwasher

If you can hear the water running - but it's not filling, you most likely have a drain problem, which is being stuck open. Usually the motor kicks in and either pumps the water through the wash arms (during wash cycle) or through the drain (during drain cycle) the switch that/or flap could be stuck on the drain and it is pumping it out the drain all the time instead of the wash arms.

Sounds like there is still something in the pump. I am 99% certain this unit has a reversable motor.

LE light on...not filling with water.

ACCORDING TO SERVICE MANUAL, THE "L.E." ERROR CODE SUGGESTS A LOCKED ROTOR ON THE WASH MOTOR. CHECK THE WASH IMPELLER FOR A FOREIGN OBJECT. IF IT SPINS FREELY, CHECK THE WIRING TO THE WASH MOTOR FOR LOOSE CONNECTION.
THE L.G.HAS HAD A HISTORY OF MOTOR PROBLEMS.

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO CANCEL THE PROGRAM AND DRAIN OUT THE WATER.
