My kids locked the ipad it keeps asking to connect to itune, but I know the code

The kids tried to out smart mom. They thought they would continue to try different codes until they got it right with just luck. Now however they locked it up and the ipad will no longer let me even enter the code. Help--I know the code but the ipad says I have to connect with itunes. Itunes will not open up because the ipad is locked--Can anyone help? I just need to put in the code--I would like to not to reset everything

I don't have an iPad, but I did find this article. Sounds pretty much like what you're describing. Maybe this will help. It does say that making you connect to iTunes is for your protection in the event that someone steals your ipad.

Keep in mind, I have no idea how data is synced on an iPad, so I don't know if you may lose saved data on the device. Hopefully you've got that already synced/backed up:

Step 1
To reset the Apple iPad you should first locate the power button. This is the button on the top right corner of the iPad when you are holding it like a book, with the narrower sides on the top and bottom.
Step 2
Once you have located this button you will need to simply hold this button down for about 3 seconds or until you see the red slider icon (a red rectangle with a white arrow facing toward the right) come across the top of the screen. The slide area or the area to the right of the button will be labeled Slide to Power Off.
Step 3
If you want to just reboot to iPad you can do that by touching the red slider button and sliding your finger along the slider area toward the right side of your iPad. The iPad will automatically start shutting down, it may take it several seconds depending on the amount of space you are using on your iPad and the programs you had running when you requested the reboot.
Step 4
To turn the iPad back on or restart it after you have shut it down just press the power button (remember that's the button on the top right of the iPad).

If you remember the password of your iPad, it's would be easy. However, you can still refer to below steps to unlock an iPad without password.
It is a good habit to have your iPad backed up regularly. In case of your iPad is locked, disabled or being stolen, you can easily recover your data from it. Otherwise, you'll lose all the data. To unlock iPad screen without password or to unlock disabled iPad mean you have to remove your previous pass code and restore your iPad. Here we introduce three methods which you can follow.
Method One: How to unlock iPad without password using iTunes

1. Connect iPad to the computer you have synced with.
2. Open iTunes on your computer and connect it with your iPad. If fortunate, you can enter the iTunes without password. But in most cases, there would be prompt asking for a pass code. Try another computer you've synced with, or use recovery mode. (The recovery mode will be mentioned in method three.)

1. Open your laptop or computer, go to icloud.com/find or open the iCloud app.

3. There's an All Devices button at the top-left of the window, click on it to call out a drop-down menu and choose your iOS device.
4. Click Erase (your device) in the prompt to finalize the process.
5. Now you can either recovery data to your device from a backup or set up as new if there isn't any back-up before.

Method Three: How to unlock a disabled iPad in recovery mode?
If you've neither synced with iTunes nor set up Find My iPhone in iCloud, you'll need to wipe your iPad to factory setting to remove the password, which means you'll suffer losing all your data on iPad and get it as a new one.
Please pay attention there is a slight difference in putting different models of iPad into recovery mode.
iPad Air

1. Turn off your iPad Air, press and hold the Home button.
2. While holding the Home key, connect the USB cable to the device. Wait until the Apple logo appears and keep holding the Home button for few more seconds.
3. Continue holding the Home button until the iTunes logo appears.

iPad mini/iPad pro

1. Connect your iPad to your computer or laptop and open iTunes.
2. While your device is connected, force to restart it.
3. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.

Now you have entered the recovery mode, and

1. When you see the option to Restore and Update, click it.

Hi Donald. Do you forget the passcode?

If you have synced your iPad with iTunes before you forget your iPad password, you can reset your iPad by using iTunes without losing data. Through iTunes, you can restore your iPad from the last backup and remove the passcode from your locked iPad while retaining your data. If iTunes asks you to enter the passcode, try another computer. Otherwise, you have to follow the reset iPad Passcode with Recovery Mode section below. The following steps will show you how to reset iPad password with iTunes.

Connect your iPad to the computer with via a USB cable that your iPad has trusted.
Launch iTunes. If you've synced your iPad with iTunes, then no "enter password" is required.
iTunes will automatically sync your iPad and create a backup file. If it doesn't, you should sync your iTunes and create a backup file manually by in the Summary window.
In the Summary window, you can see the option "Restore iPad". Click it and follow prompts to choose the latest iTunes backup to restore your iPad.

After the restoration process is complete, your passcode will be erased and all your data will be restored from your backup. You will now be able to access your iPad without any passcode. And you can set your new password on iPad.

You need to plug it into a computer running iTunes.

You have setup an iTunes account with Apple. When you connect the iPad to iTunes, (WiFi or via computer) they ask you the password for your iTunes account. If you forgot that one, Apple can send you an reset code to the mail address connected to the Apple account. (Not the iCloud mail)
If nothing works, goto the closest Apple store and take your invoice with you and an ID card, to prove you are the legal owner, perhaps they can help you.

You will have to restore it by connecting to iTunes on your computer. That will erase all settings including the password. If you have a backup you can get it then set up as a new device with a new password.

Try connecting it to iTunes, turning off the ipad, then hold both the lock and the home button for 10 seconds, then relese the lock button while continuing to hold the home button until iTunes recognizes the iPad. Then you should be able to reset it without problem.
