My problem: I can't view DVDs through my TV, even though the player is on and operating correctly. I had a Sony DVD player connected to a Humax PVR, in turn connected to a rather older Panasonic flat-screen tv. When I selected the AV channel on the TV the PVR displayed its contents as you would expect. When I wanted to play a DVD I switched the Sony it automatically took over the TV display from the Humax and I watched the DVD. When I switched the Sony off, the display again automatically reverted to the Humax, (until I used the TV's AV to go back to the TV's display). I recently replaced the old Panasonic TV with a larger, more modern Panasonic. As far as I can tell, I have reconnected everything the same way as it was before - with the exception of the new TV being connected to the Humax via HDMI, which the old one didn't have. The other difference, not that I think it is relevant here, is that the new TV has built in Freeview, (previously I could only view Freeview via the Humax as the old TV didn't have that built in). Help appreciated.
So you have HDMI off of the PVR into the TV and AV off of the DVD Player into the PVR at the moment? Just for info what connectors do you have at the back of the tv, dvd and pvr? In's and out's...

but this page won't let me supply all the details - I can only type a few words in these Comment and Testimonial boxes
Help with this please - I DO want and need further help
Hi Alex, sorry have been real buzy. Just so you know this site is public, no one here works for fixya... I think. Did you try a full reset on ur PVR? and does your DVD have to be connected to your PVR? Can't it be directly connected to your TV's AV Inputs?
Try using a different browser to write. Chrome or Firefox maybe.. Opera is a bit unstable on some sites.
Hi MonsterByte, I'm already using Google - it's all I ever use, Don't like Internet Exploder (!!) and haven't got Firefox.
Ok, that last comment has been added successfully, so here's more. No, in theory, the DVD can be connected directly to the tv but in practice I really do prefer to have it going via the PVR. The reason is: a) I'll need to buy a longer scart ribbon cable, the present one won't reach, (ok so that's not a big deal on its own, admittedly), and b) the set up I'm trying to achieve has the advantage of the tv being automatically taken over by the DVD when a disc is loaded, (and automatically returned to the PVR when the DVD is switched off).
Regarding your previous query about socket connections available, here's what I've got:
Ah-ha, so now it won't accept the text I've just entered. Presumably that is either because a) it will only accept direct typed in text, not pasted in as I just did, or b) I've exceeded the number of characters permitted - not surprising when I don't know if there is a limit, never mind what it is!
I'll cut my reply into small portions and try again.
Nope, that's not working. I've just copied and pasted just three lines, (around 400 characters) and it wouldn't upload that.
Ok, I'll try typing it in directly, - a pain when I've already typed it all in Open Office.
I'm guessing that the main sockets that you are interested in are those listed further on, but first just to let you know that the TV also has three other sockets which are a) Common Interface - not in use; b) Headphone jack socket - not in use; c) USB - not in use.
Ah, there you see. Direct typing of those same three lines has worked, so presumably this site won't accept text pasted in - not very impressive :-(
Here's the rest then, the main connection details: A) Sockets on the TV: 1. Scart - not in use; 2. Ethernet - not in use; 3. HDMI 1 - connected to the PVR; 4. HDMI 2
4. HDMI 2 - not in use; 5. AV2 - this has got the following, (not of them in use): a] Audio - Right/Left (red/white) - not in use; b] Pr - not in use, (don't know what it its red; c] Ps -not in use (don't know what this is either, but it's blue; d] Y Component - not in use (again don't know what this is for either, but it's green.
B) Sockets on the DVD Player: a] Coaxial - not in use; b] Audio - Left/Right (red/white) - connected to the PVR; c] Video (yellow) connected to the PVR; d] Scart - connected to the PVR.
C) Sockets on the PVR: a] Scart 1 (TV Scart) - connected to the DVD; b] Scart 2 (VCR Scart) - not in use; c] RS232C - not in use; d] Antenna In - connect ed to the external TV aerial mounted on the house roof; e] TV-VCR (antenna-type socket) - connected to the TV.
That's it, but one final offering: by temporarily holding the DVD player up to the TV I managed to make the scart lead from the DVD reach the TV's scart socket. The TV DID then display the the DVD that was playing in the DVD player. However, even if I went and bought a longer scart ribbon cable it would mean yet another cable snaking up out of the cabinet when the DVD player lives. I hate spagetti tangles on view, so am not keen on that solution if I can possibly avoid it - it wasn't necessary with the previous older tv.
So previously it was AV or scart from the PVR to the tv? Reason is the signal from the dvd to pvr was also scart/av and then would override the av signal or that is what I imagine.. so now the pvr has to convert AV/Scart to HDMI signal.. Look I have no idea of what the PVR's capabilities is but try and look on the remote of the pvr if there is an AV/Input button and browse around the setup menu of the PVR to see if there is any clues to Input Output settings.
I went to the Humax site and there's not many manuals there. Which model do you have?
Hi again. I DO want to say thank you again for your kindness in persisting with my problem. I DO appreciate it.
Ok, so yes it definitely was scart from PVR to tv. That tv is now up in our bedroom, so I've just checked - it has two scart sockets, (labelled AV1 and AV2), plus the audio jack sockets, and, as I said before, no HDMI (it is an older Panasonic flatscreen).
Th Humax is a P
The Humax model is PVR-9300T. That set was acquired about 7 months ago as a second-hand one from our TV repair guy after I called him in because my original PVR died. The dead one was a Humax PVR-9200T, I still have the paper manual for that, but being second hand we didn't get a manual with the 9300T.
The 9300T is identical to the 9200T (except for being black instead of sliver). Not getting far looking through the paper manual as I don't really know what I'm looking for. The remote does have a button labelled "Source" which the manual says "Selects the input source between TV and the product."
You suggested that I try to " browse around the setup menu of the PVR to see if there is any clues to Input Output settings.". I'll give that a go and see what I can find out. Thanks again.
Yes I think you are right in saying that "now the pvr has to convert AV/Scart to HDMI signal." I guess that that IS what I'm trying to achieve. Whether it is actually possible I just don't know.
I've now had a look at pvr's settings. The menu button brings up a screen with 5 options, which are: Record; Preferences; Edit Channels; Installation and System. Record is just that, so not relevant. Ditto Edit Channels. That leaves Preferences, Installation and System as possibles. System is to do with Hardware and Software versions etc. so not that one. Installation is for channel search, software update, antenna power, etc. so not that either. That leaves Preferences. That has Parental Control, Language Setting, etc. but it also includes A/V Control. That in turn has: 1. TV-Scart; 2. VCR-Scart; 3. Audio Output; 4. Screen Ratio, 5. Display Format and 6. HDMI Resolution. 1 and 2 give access to RGB, CVBS or S-Video. None of that seems useful in this context - to me at least!
Going back to that Source button selecting "the input source between TV and the product" thinking about it, I don't understand that. Surely the TV is not IN-putting to the pvr, is it? Nor can the pvr be inputting to itself. I'd have thought that the pvr was OUT-putting to the tv.
Is the source button on the PVR remote?
Source has always been Input on whatever device's remote it is. Source on your TV would be like selecting AV, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, ... So your source on the TV is HDMI 1 to select the PVR, Source on the PVR would be AV to select the DVD player.
ok went through the manual, you'll have to change the scart to an rca cable.
Oh boy, you really are a treasure, bless you. Before reading this just now, I've been having a play with the various pieces of kit, including looking at the PVR's Preferences menu again. Think I said this before, but I'll repeat it here anyway. That menu has an entry labelled A/V Control, which has two sub-menu items, 1. TV-Scart and 2 VCR-Scart. The options on the TV one are RGB, (the currently-set one), CVBS, (not heard of that so don't know what it means), and S-Video. Th VCR one is the same except it doesn't an option for RGB.
Following your correction of my understanding of "Source", I was looking to find a way setting the PVR's input to AV, (so that it would accept the DVD output). The details I've just given appear, (to me at least!), to show that such is not possible. I then checked again that the TV displayed the DVD's output when the two were directly connected with the short scart cable I currently have. It did. I therefore concluded that I would just have to go buy a longer scart cable. The downside of that is that having already cut a hole (at the moment 3cm x 2cm) in the top surface of my nice walnut cabinet to take the wires to the TV, I'd now have to make it bigger to let the Scart connector pass through - rather ugly, so a shame. (This all happened because I bought a bigger tv, (the original smaller one being housed behind doors in the purpose-built cabinet). You'll see now why I'm so very delighted with your latest suggestion - the rca connectors should pass through that hole just fine.
Oh, just thought. Will that rca cable be connected between the DVD and the PVR or the TV and the DVD, please?
By the way, to view the PVR's output on the TV I select HDMI-1. When viewing the DVD's output just now, I never thought to change the tv, but I then spotted this, which meant that the DVD was using the same "channnel" as the DVD, (so presumably?), it was over-riding the PVR. I'm reasonably sure that this is correct because to test it I had the PVR "broadcasting" to the TV but could not see what it was sending as I was watching the DVD's output, so I then switched off the DVD and immediately the tv displayed the PVR's output.
Just checked Amazon. They have various lengths but am I looking at the correct rca type? They have: 1. Cable Mountain 3m High Quality Gold Plated 2x Phono to 2x Phono RCA Cable; 2 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono Stereo Audio Cable 3m Lead and 3. RCA Male Plug to Plug - 1m - Premium Quality - Audio Video AV 3xRCA Phono Composite TV Cable Lead.
No need to get anything expensive, here you can pic them up at the local cafe. You need the 3 x combo type that has audio LEFT (White) RIGHT (Red) and Video (Yellow). Just make sure you buy the lenght you need.
All Male on the cable otherwise it's an extension.
Think this is what you mean, (yes/no?): http://www.cables-leads.co.uk/3-rca-phon...
no those are extension cables, you need all male connectors. Extension has 3 male and 3 female
Ah, ok, thanks. So this one then, yes/no? http://www.cables-leads.co.uk/belkin-tri...
Yes that's the one.
I have just ordered a 3 metre length one - should be here in two or three days. I'll let you know how I get on when it arrives. I MUST thank you yet again for your kindness, patience and great help, so freely given. Including postage, this has cost me $9.25. If I'd called in the TV guy it would have cost me AT LEAST $84.00
So, a very grateful and sincere thank you, MonsterByte.

SOURCE: Tivo won't change my TV Channels anymore with direct cable
I re-did the guided setup in the Tivo under Messages & Settings/Restart-Reset System/Restart menu section in Tivo. Once I did that, it cleared this issue, even though I didn't have to change any of my settings thru this guided setup. I tried a reset alone first, but that did not fix it. Only this fixed it. We had lost both power and cable during a recent tree fall in a storm, and when both were restored, this problem started. I have a cable coax directly in the back of the TV (no cable box/IR etc) and the system is on a home wireless network. I actually have 2 identical Tivo's in the house set up the same way but only one had this problem. The other worked no different after the outage.
SOURCE: No freeview bbc channels
just solved the problem
with the variable attenator fitted i did a rescan still didnt work
but when i did a rescan to the restore factory settings it now works
SOURCE: HUMAX PVR-9150T : REMOTE CONTROL DOES NOT TALK TO
I also have this same problem. Freezes after about 30 seconds to a minute after switching on. Think it is possibly related to the program listings sent to it. May be some error. How do I fix though???
