SOURCE: HARMAN KARDON CDR-26 CD RECORDER/PLAYER

You need to clean the laser lense, if that doesn't work you need a new laser pickup. Check first, but from memory you need a sanyo sfp151 17 pin laser. Costs around $25.

First thing to do is disconnect the unit from the mains supply for 15 mins to allow for a hardware reset,and then power it up and try again. If it does not come up, then the power supply has been damaged by a power surge associated with the outage. You may have no choice but to take the unit to an authorised HK repairer. If a read head burns out or the alignment has changed, the laser is inoperative. If a CD/DVD was a copy or reproduced on a computer it too may not be read. If the medium works on other devices, then the players laser may be defective.

How do I get my Sony RCD-W1 to record from one CD to another
using the dubbing button on your recorder will recorder from your cd player on the right side of the deck to the cdr recorder on your left side..the left side of the deck is the cd recorder...hope it helps...just place a cd disc on the right side and a blank cd on the left side push dubbing button and wait till the left side reads the song on the recorder cd on the right

Problem with Finalizing Disc
When you insert the disc what does the recorder display after it examines it (Reading TOC)? - CDR, TOC, CDR-W, NO TOC?

It should know the disc is not finalized and let you either record more on it or finalize it.

If not, and you need to recover the 4 tracks try loading the disc on a DVD player. My old Pioneer will read unfinalized CDR-A's so I can digitally copy what's on them back to another CDR-A.

You need CDR Music. CDR Data will not work in a consumer CD recorder. Professional CD recorders do not have this media limitation.

Blank cds don't work
Are you using cds labeled music? These are formatted for cd audio home recorders. Data cds for computers will not work. If in doubt, usually on the packaging it states for home audio.
