We have to mute the sound bar when the dvd player is on because the tv sound continues through the sound bar and you have the picture from the movie.
SOURCE: Samsung HDMI issue
Have you try to replace your HDMI cable?I recommend you to pick up a good Monster HD700 HDMI cable from a local retail store like best buy or circuit city.In case it isn't the cable problem, you could return it.
However, when you are a using the HDMI cable,it is normally either have both picture and sound or nothing at all.Are you sure you didn't hook up the audio OUTPUT from your TV back to a receiver input?
Or even an optical output from the TV to the receiver?

U have a small power surge somewhere.Disconnect all connections to the tv and unplug the tv and replug it back like about an hour later.Reconnected all connections.Go into the the tv Sound Setting to do a resetting of the sound setting back to the factory reset. The tv sound should work find now.If still have the same problems, then the main tv Tuner signal board it is shorted and have intermitten dying parts on the tv Tuner signal board.Only choice now is tries buy a refurbish tv Tuner signal board for the replcement.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy LCD tvs refurbishes pcb boards.
When you use SIMPLINK function, you have to
connect to the OPTICAL IN 1 jack to enjoy TV
sound to your speaker system.
Basically you need to have the Audio go from TV to receiver and setup receiver to that Input to output surround sound to all speakers.
If you have a cable box or satellite receiver, hook that output into the receivers input and that should work.
My setup is DirectTv HDMI output goes into the LG Home Theater HDMI Input 1, and LG goes HDMI output into the TV HDMI input 1.
so to watch DirectTV, I switch LG Home theater to HDMI Input 1. and TV is on HDMI input 1 (to view LG HDMI output from DriectTV, Blu-Ray, Vudu, etc.)
