My Ricoh printer (Gx 3050 N)is coming up with an error message (990) and won't let me print. This started b/c it was not printing right at first (i.e. Words had white lines through them where black ink was not printing. Heads and other maintenance stuff was done to make sure ink was not clogged up. i even threw away the old ink and got new.) I was told I needed to download Firmware GX2_V1_0_6 which I did, but now it's just not working.

1. Check the harness of the tank full sensor.
2. Replace the GJ engine.
3. Replace the maintenance unit.

1. PCU needs R/R
2. You should replace the PCU if prints show any of the following symptoms.
   • Colors are missing, faint, or partially blurred.
   • Toner smears appear.
   • White or color rivers appear.
   • White or colored streaks appear.
4. Important: Switch off the device and disconnect it at the mains.
5. Open the right side cover.
6. Pull the green levers as shown to release the inner cover.
7. Lift the inner cover upwards.
8. Squeeze the green lever on the black PCU.
9. Pull the unit carefully out of the device and dispose of it in accordance with your local environmental policy.
10. Place the new PCU on a flat surface.
11. Peel off the tape from around the new PCU.
12. Remove the top cover from the PCU. DO NOT remove the bottom cover at this stage.
13. Rest the new PCU in the device as shown.

1. Push the PCU into the device while holding the bottom cover. You will hear a click when the PCU has locked into place.
2. Lower the inner cover.
3. Push the two green levers as shown to secure the cover.
4. Close the side cover.
5. Connect the device at the mains, switch it on and wait for the self-test operation to finish.

We got the same error on our machine, so I called Ricoh Direct Tech Support and they said it is a known manufacturer's error. All you have to do is 1. make sure your product is registered, 2. call them up and tell them the error and 3. they will send you a new machine. You will have to send back the old machine in the same box, but they provide the RMA for you to ship it back in.

you can try pulling out and reseating the Waste Ink tank which is located behind the machine behind a plastic door cover (left side of machine as you are looking at it from behind). Turn the machine off and on using the main power switch. If the code comes back then you will more than likely need a new Waste Ink Tank.

You need to enter service mode, (this really should be done by a ricoh tech) Turn off printer press and hold down online and escape and turn printer on, the panel should sho a 1 2 3, push 2 for engine and enter press 7 and enter 804 is the counters for supplies. #4 is the fuser press enter after the printer says execute. Back out with escape and 3 to exit, cycle power. -Carl
