Please shutdown your device, remove all the wires connected to the sony device and then turn the device back on again. Watch to see if the issue occurs again. And if not, please add all of your wires back. Thank you.
This is an indicator of an output load problem, turn unit off! remove the speaker wires from the back of the stereo, now turn power on and turn the volume down. If the word protect stays off there is a short in the wire or one of the speakers, but! if the word protect comes on " with the speakers and wires dis-connected " it indicates a short in the audio output ic pack in the stereo.
It shows protect when it senses a problem with the output wires shorted or some internal fault. Try disconnecting all the speaker wires and power up again. If it still shows protect, then the fault is internal.
Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. Hopefully you have warranty . Send to Rockford Fosgate for repair

You have a shorted speaker wire or a blown speaker. The unit is protecting itself from damage. Did you install it? if so, pull the deck and check your connections. If they all seem fine, disconnect one speaker at a time, and turn on the radio. Make sure the radio speaker wires are taped so they don't short and cause more damage. Test each speaker wire until you find which one is causing the problem. Now re-connect all the other speakers and test. Next, disconnect the speaker wire right at the speaker that's giving you a problem, tape it off, then re connect it to the receiver. now test again. If all is ok, you have a bad speaker, if not run a test wire from the radio to the possible bad speaker and test again. If the speaker plays, you know what the problem is, replace the bad wire. Most often it's a door speaker wire or a wire got pinched during installation and took a while to short. Hope this helps
Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!
In a Kenwood deck, "PROTECT" usually means that one of the speaker output wires is shorted.
The first thing to do is pull the deck and inspect the wiring at the back, making sure there aren't any pinched or exposed wires. If a speaker wire is pinched against the deck chassis, or bare wire is touching dash metal, it can cause your problem. If you don't see anything obvious, disconnect all speaker wires from the deck, then turn it on. If it still flashes "protect", then you have a defect in the unit. If not, then re-connect the speakers one at a time until you find the one that causes it to go into Protect mode.
Usually if you don't find a pinched or shorted wire behind the radio, the problem can be found at the speaker itself. This is especially common if you've installed after-market speakers; if a speaker terminal connection has come loose and is now touching the speaker basket or mounting surface, it will shut down the deck.
