I have a side by side stainless GE Profile model number PSS26NSTC. SS it goes into defrost and stays the fridge side sometimes gets as high as 60 and the freezer side as high as 40. What the heck am

Hello Joyce:
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.
A unit will go into the defrost mode every 8-10 hours for about 20 minutes.
Your unit is not is not get rid of the heat. You do not have a separate defrost timer. Your defrost cycle is controlled by the main control board in the lower back of your unit.
Since you are maintain a 40 degree temperature I suspect your condenser fan is bad. This is the highest probability. Unplug you unit. Pull it out far enough for you to get behind it. Remove the bottom cover. To the far right you will see a round canister (it looks like a big filter). The is your cooling condenser. Over time they get plugged with dust or animal hair. This needs to be cleaned with a small brush. It is hard to give them a good cleaning. Do the best that you can. To the right of the cool condenser is a motor and fan assembly. I suspect the fan is not running or is sticking. First, clean this area. Turn the fan blade by hand. Plug the unit in to check if the fan runs. If it runs - allow your unit to cool. to see if this is the problem.
Ok, the fan is not running at all. Take a small household fan. Plug it in and direct the air flow at the cooling condenser.
Note: A dirty cooling condenser can drop can affect your cooling by as much as 40 degreed F.
If this is not the problem, get back to me and we will go into the other probabilities.

I have a G E TFX20Jr side by side it runs all the time, everything works fine. My eggs are frozen in the firg. side. What is my most likely prob?

Sounds like a thermostat stuck. Clean condenser and check any fans are running fine. If turning the thermostat down stops it running all the time, all the better!

Will not cool firge or feezer. Had a power loss then came back on here in San diego and firge/freezer will not cool now

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.

Sounds like the cold control has stuck . Unplug the two wires from the cold control and plug them together. Turn one wire over and plug it into the other. away from the cold control.
The cold control is the knob in the ref that turns it on and off and has numbers on it. (Thermostat)
If it runs then that cold control (Thernostat) is the problem.
If that doesn't work DO THIS:
The relay on the compressor may need replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
also try hooking the two wires together on the cold control to route around the cold control.

Fridge side not cooling. freezer works. 6 yr old side by side

There is a little fan that blows air from the freezer side to cool the fridge side. Pull the plug on the refridgerator for over night, long enough to give it time to defrost if there is any, then plug it back in and see ifthe fan is running. If not then it probably needs to be replaced. If it keeps frosting up and stopping the fan then the defrost timer is probably bad and will need to be replaced.

The refrigerator side is not cooling and the freezer side is working fine. Two weeks ago this same problem occured and I moved everything to my backup frig and allowed the kenmore to defrost over night....

it indicates the problem with defrost timer.actually the defrost timer sends the command to defrost the ice formed inside the tube after every particular time interval.if the timer is faulty.it wont defrost at all and the ice will keep clogging the tubes and so some sections of fridge wont get cooled due to clogged vents until its manually defrosted. to fix this problem you will have to get the defrost timer replaced.this will definately solve the issue.
thanks.

Engine cooling fan not coming on

It may be the fan itself. Try to find the plug going to the fan, it should be close to the fan and might plug diresctly into the relay. Use two jumper wires straight from the Bat one from the pos+ side and one from the neg- side and plug them into the two holes in the connector the fan should start WATCH YOUR FINGERS. If it starts its elec prob before the fan if not its the fan.
