ViewSonic 19" flat screen monitor goes black - intermittently

I originally had a Dell flat screen monitor, which started going black intermittently until finally it just stayed black. I replaced it a few months ago (February or March) with the ViewSonic flat screen monitor, and now it's starting the intermittent black screen problem. Could there be another problem besides the monitor? My Dell computer is about 4-1/2 years old.

Hi,
There could be a problem with your display card settings or the display card itself. If you are using Windows operating system, make sure that you have the monitor driver installed for that specific monitor. This is to ensure that Windows only allows settings for which your particular monitor was designed.
Let me know if I can assist you any further regarding this.
Best wishes,
Graemevm

Looking like there is an issue with the powerboard on the monitor. This problem you are having appears to be common with this monitor, with a lot of them failing for no apparent reason

You may have backlight inverter failure, check the fuse as shown in my pictures, you can also have bad backlight assemblies also, but check the fuse on the inverter bd first, verify that you do have 12v at the fuse.

VS10162 back screen

The reason I ask you to hook up the viewsonic directly to the PC is to find out if the problem is in the USB adapter or in the monitor itself, you can also try your Viewsonic with other computer.
Basically just have the PC, VIEWSONIC, NO USB or the monitor. We need to narrow down the problem.

I have a ViewSonic VE910b 19" That the display stays black

What your both experiencing is a slow degradation of the inside light bulbs. Just like what happens to regular fluorescent bulbs, they slowly flicker out.

Best to buy a new monitor.

Take apart your old one, you'll find burnt out bullbs on the upper and lower chassis deep inside.

Red line on monitor of dell laptop

You may want to try another video cable. If that not it then you may want to open the OSD (On Screen Display) menu and see if it goes over that. If it dose you may have to get service from Viewsonic. If not then you may want to try the monitor on another computer to make sure its not traveling with the monitor.
