First lets see why the channel display is not lighting up. This indicates a problem internally with the radio. Is the CB/PA switch in the CB position? If the CB/PA switch is in the CB position and the display is still not lighting up then you more than likely have a problem with a voltage regulator. If the regulator shorts or opens then the meter lights will come on but the VCO / PLL circuit will be dead thus No receive or transmit.
My solution is above in the comments I forgot to add that you should make sure the antenna is grounded properly. You may have to add a wire to the antenna and secure it to the chassis of you vehicle. get back to me and let me know how you make out.
SOURCE: Cobra 19 DX IV CB Radio Gets no signal at all
my only idea is the frequency that Canadians transmit/recieve on is different than us down south (in the USA). I know Europe and the UK use a different frequency range so my guess is that Canada uses a different radio frequency range than the U.S. making you unable to communicate with fellow radio users. You may be able to search the frequency range for Canada vs. the U.S. and see if there's a difference. Hope this helps...and again, it's just a thought.

SOURCE: limited cb radio range on Kenworh t800 truck
I recall problems grounding the antenna on those kw's. May want to try a no ground antenna. Also the stock coax that comes with the truck sometimes gets broken or pinched. Go to a good shop, replace the cheap coax and grount the antennas.

You need to shorten the antenna, adjust the whip all the way down and see what you have and then cut off 1/4" at a time remember this low on 1 high on 40 it needs to be lengthened high on 1 low on 40 it needs to be shortened . I hope this helps and good luck.
SOURCE: Cobra Cb handheld radio model: HH-35 doesn't work
Open up the back of the radio and check the solder joint from the antenna connector. I had same problem and it was this.
SOURCE: when i click the mic i get no transmit
If the receive works ok,sounds like a mic
problem, try another mic if you can find a
buddy who has a Cobra that may let you
try it most all Cobra mic will work but not all.
Good Luck

check your SWR reading on ch 1 -40 + 19 get them as close to 1.5:1 as possiable. If the match is too high you won't receive or transmit As soon as you start getting tha match down you should get some sort of noise through your speaker, and while your at it check the speaker and make sure there is contact.
A high SWR will not prevent receive or transmit from working. It will only damage your radio if you do transmit on an antenna with high SWR. You can receive with a coat hanger as long as you dont transmit.
The channel display will light if I hit the channel 9 switch it shows 9 but will not tx/rx or change channels.I am going to look for a bad voltage regulator will update later.Thanks.
if you hit the channel 9 switch you should not be able to change channels anyway .
after unlocking channel 9 it still doesnt change and goes out after a while.
I guess it's not the regulator since the display will light.
probably the crystal or pll chip I guess
probably the crystal or pll chip I guess
Was this radio working when you got it or is it something you picked up somewhere? you have a strange problem.
I am beginning to think you have some dirty worn out switches. work the switches back and forth and see if it clears up.
Yep it worked perfect. It is weird bout to give up but thanks.
Is your CB/PA on PA? That would do it. Make sure it's on CB :-)
