My GE Adora front load washing machine will lock the door, spin to the left a couple of seconds, spin to the right a couple of seconds, then unlock the door. It does this with no water inside and will not cycle at all.
I had a similar problem...with the added issue of the door not locking at all. I cleaned the filter and all is well. However, it took me hours to find the 3 screws everyone was talking about The screws are at the very bottom of the washer, under the lip, facing front. If your machine sits on a pedestal drawer like mine, they are located between the machine and the pedestal. I hope these pics save someone a little time...

THANK YOU!!! I had this problem before and paid $175 to have it fixed. It only took the tech no more than 30min and he was done. He showed me all of this stuff that was clogged in the filter. Well, that was about 8 months ago and now the same problem. I searched online to see what exactly did he do and came across this post... it took me about 45 minutes but afterwards, it was well worth it... washer working just fine now! Thanks again!!!!!
I have had a lot of washing machines in my time, but this is by far the most baffeling until my daughter found this site. Had the machine four years and finally the "lint trap" caught up with me. THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET. Would be embarassed to tell you the contents, but, so far it is spinning well. Wrote a letter to GE and Home Depot.. Thanks again!!!
thank you, thank you! had trouble finding the screws at first (they are at the very bottom of lowest part of washing machine) but once i did, i unscrewed the filter and cleaned a ton of stuff out. problem solved! ONE BIG NOTE: have a bucket ready to catch all the water (it's a lot!) that will rush out when filter is removed. i did not and now have water everywhere. will need to move washer & dryer to clean & dry underneather. but still, so happy i didn't have to pay the $150 service call to fix!

My model is the GE WHDVH626FGG Adora front load washer. It had the similar problem all the other posters had (load stop in middle cycle, cloth still wet upon unloading). You can find the lint filter on the front bottom of the washing maching right below the washer window. It is held up by three short (usually white) metal screws. Once you take out the screws you will see (my unit is a 2007 model) so no additional removal is needed to remove and clean the lint trap. It's a plastic dial turn it slowly counter clockwise and be ready with a lot (I mean a lot) of paper towel and or small bucket to catch all the water that will be coming out. Inside you'll find all the small and large items that was sucked under the stainless steel drum during the spin and wash cycle that was funneled to the lint trap.
This is not mentioned in any of the GE website nor user manual. I think they intentionally didn't do this so that you will have to pay for the service call. I have started to inform all my friends of this lint trap so that they will be aware of it and thus avoiding a pricy service call.
Our washer had similar problems to the ones stated above. The washer was not finishing the cycle and not draining all the way. we thought it had something to do with the rinse and spin cycle until we found the suggestion of cleaning the filter. Never even knew the washer had a filter. Was shocked to find two socks, parts to glasses and pens, and about 2.50 in change. This site was a huge help and now our washer is running good as new. Mikes3boys got to the heart of the matter with the suggestion of the pump beside the lint filter! Just got a thick office rubber band out of the impeller blades of my Adora's pump... If you are relatively handy, and treat the whole thing like a puzzle you'll have to precisely reassemble, it can be done! Unplug your machine, and get any excess water out of the machine by draining it through the filter. It will help to have a shop vac at the ready, to take care of the water slop, but you'll then need to remove the two hoses from the lint filter/pump assembly (simple compression clamps, can be released/replaced with a pliers), and two small electronic fuse plugs from the side of the pump (note the wire colors and plug placement, to replace correctly). Two small screws hold the assembly to the floor of the washer; one I had to find by feel, as it was far to the right of the filter barrel and hard to see. Remove these and set aside, then the whole pump assembly can be wiggled out of its nested spot and brought out in to the open. Three small screws will open the pump's impeller wheel cover, and the obstruction can be removed. If you've seen "Finding Nemo" or have a fish tank pump of your own, it seems rather similar in its basic design... Nemo used a chunk of gravel, right? I think the moral of the story is EMPTY YOUR POCKETS -- ALL POCKETS -- BEFORE WASHING ANYTHING!!!!
Problem:
Water would not pump out.
Solution:
Remove three sheet-metal screws along the bottom front edge of machine.
Remove the bottom front access panel.
Unscrew the white plastic cover to the lint trap. Have a bucket standing by. All that water your machine could not pump out will drain out of the lint filter. Clean the lint, pocket change, etc from the filter. I did these steps and the machine was back to pumping like new.
We don't have a pedestal, so I got way down on the floor with a flashlight, and easily saw and removed the screws. Panel came right off. since a bucket wouldn't fit under the trap, I laid down a bath towel with a cookie sheet on top. Loosened the trap and filled the cookie sheet; tightened back up and dumped each subsequent cookie sheet of water into a bucket. It took about five times of this, but it was EASY. It was probably five quarts, and that didn't count what we had bailed out of the loader!
Broken pencils, coins, pen parts, a couple of buttons and some gnarly lint. Who knew??

All you need to do is clean the filter. you can get to it by unscrewing the front screws at the bottom to remove the bottom panel. Unscrew the filter but be ready to have something to catch the water overflow. Coins did it for us. There was not much lint. Hope this helps.
Mikes 2 boys comment was very helpful. I had taken out the filter, but cleaning it didnt work. I had to remove the pump and take it apart. Its very simple remove the pump, take off the 3 screws on the back, slide the pump assembly off the motor, pull the pump wheel out with a flat head screwdriver. The pump assembly had lots of lint and grit inside. Put everything back together and it should work fine.
This might be a little late, but I just had the same problem on a similar GE washer. You have something stuck in the pump. Its right next to your drain. 2 screws to take the pump out then 3 to take the pump apart. Hope this fixes you problem.

Wow, what a wide spread issue. GE should be ashamed. They should have done something to make this right. I simply cannot believe that they've not heard of this issue. It's unfortunate that "doing the right thing" is so difficult.

Thanks you so much for this post!! I saved myself the cost of a repairman!! The lint trap was totally filled and water could not flow through. The high spin dry cycle is now working and the clothes are practically dry when the wash is done. I am so thankful I found this because I could not afford to get a repairman at this time.
**WHEN YOU OPEN THE TRAP IF THERE'S WATER IN THE WASHER MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BUCKET TO CATCH IT**.
There are three screws on the bottom. You got to get down really low and you will see them. Take them off and the hood comes out pretty easily. The lint trap is a screw type. Now here's the tricky part. Since there was no way for me to get the washer up high enough to have the water drain out, I laid a towel on the ground, and then placed a bowl under the trap. I released the screw lint trap very carefully, screwing it back up when the bowl was full. Once it was completely empty I pulled the trap out and behold it was a treasue trove. There was a lot in there, and I mean A LOT!! Coins, hair ties, bandaids, LINT LINT and More Lint...almost threw up, small stones, things I could not really identify, so that's where that screw went...hmph.

I've had the same problem with my washer. I've found I need to clean it out at least once every three to four months. I even had the GE technician come to my house while the machine was still in warranty before we figured out what the problem was. He told me I was using too much detergent and the suds were not allowing the machine to drain. I was so mad because that was such a bogus answer. My husband took the panel off to just take a look and found the cleanout in no time. Quite the design flaw to make a cleanout trap so inaccessible and then to not mention it in the manual. I will NEVER buy a GE appliance again!!!!

We had the same problem with our GE Adora--wouldn't spin or drain. We cleaned the lint filter and then had to clean the pump too. We found a 4 inch long string wrapped inside the pump. Not too much money in the lint filter though. One tip we could share is to place a cookie sheet with a raised lip/edge under the machine to catch water as you GRADUALLY drain it through the filter. My husband kept closing and opening the filter to allow water out until it was completely drained. Thank you to all who have shared your wisdom. Unlike many others, I love my machine and am happy to have it back in working order again!

Gang, I tried this but I need to warn you from my own DUMB experience.....yes, I am DUMB. I put a coat hanger up there because something was lodged and it got stuck in the black, rubber coiled tube, and I punctured a hole in it and now have to pay for a replacement and someone to do it because it isn't easy for a weakling female like myself:) So, all you ladies and maybe the gent or two, don't use an unraveled coat hanger to dig up there!!:) The part of the filter being clogged was dead on!!!
This sounds like my problem, but I am embarrassed to say I cannot figure out where the three screws are that need to be removed. Are you people turning the machine upside down to find these?

I was doing laundry at my parents house and they have the Adora front loader, it would not lock after I put the second load in so I searched the Internet. Cleaning the filter and following all of the suggestions worked perfectly now I don't owe my parents a new washer and I can finish my laundry!

Thanks. I remember seeing that vent when I had the machine serviced about two years ago. I noticed recently the clothes were not fully wrung out when the load was done. I just cleaned it out and it was totally full of gunk.
Don't know if the rest of you are in Canada - we are. Same machine but not labelled Adora. Ours was from Home Depot. ANYWAY......we win! $3.18 Canadian! Plus a mini Bic (destroyed), a bra underwire, towel tag, shoulder pad, misc. lint. Going for our test run now but pretty sure that was the problem. Thank you Fixya!!! PS: Not a single word about this in our manual either. Great machine but GE....you **** at writing manuals!!!!!!
Thank you Thank you Thank you. My washer is not on a pedestal so to find the screws I had to put my face on the floor and then unscrew them. My washer works like new now. $2.18 in change, 6 guitar picks, 12 bobbi pins, keys to a rented front end loader(that cost me to replace them, 8 months ago), writing pen and lots of unidentified GUNK. How this thing was working at all, I don't know. But a heads up. Mine quit working right after I washed 3 couch throws, there was a lot of lint in the washer itself, I had to wipe it down and then it quit working. So beware of washing very "linty" items. I did this all by myself, won't the hubby be proud as the repairmen was coming tomorrow.

The filter cleaning worked to fix my problem.....just like other people, I didn't even know I had a filter. I found a huge lintball, about $1.00 in change, a couple hair baretts from my wife. Unfortunately, no dollar bills. Thanks for saving me the service call!!! The second everything was hooked back up, the washer was spinning like it was new!!!!!
I have a GE adora Front loader from Sears. I was doing a load of laundry and the door lock in mid cycle decided to unlock. So in short the washer door won't stay locked there fore won't run.

Well I am also one of the users that had a Baby sock, 3 pennies, a nickel and a disgusting amount of lint trtapped behind that filter that I never knew exsisted until I found this posting. Washer is running like new again. Thanks everybody for the help!

Mariavan's solution is likely the solution that will fix 95% of the problems with this washer. Unfortunately, GE did not mention the drain trap cleaning in their early model user manuals. However, the newer versions of this same washer now have a pop out panel where the drain trap is for much easier access. By the way, I guess I should mention that our trap had 2 quarters, a baby sock, a baby washcloth, and various smaller items stuck in it....I don't know how it was still even trying to pump.
Mariavan is right. We had coins in ours too. So make sure that pockets are clean when you use this machine.

Did you get any error codes on the control panel? this sounds funny but have you cleaned the trap out? You have to clean the trap of the washer every so often (it is not mentioned in the manual. You take off the front bottom panel and you will see a round trap door to the right turn it and pull out and you can clean the trap make sure you put a pan under because water will come out as well. When the trap is full the cycles won't run. Usually this happens when there is water in the machine but lets try this anyway. Before you try this, unplug the machine, let it sit several minutes and plug back in, see if this helps before removing the filter trap.

I bought this washer not to long ago, and have seemed to have the same problem over and over again. It will lock door, spin left and then right, and then unlock the door. It will put water in the drum, but it wont spin it out. so the clothes come out completely soaked. I have had sears look at it a couple of times, and they pulled some stuff out of the drain, and fixed it, and it worked for about a week, and now its back out it, but i checked the drain myself, and its clear.
I have this EXACT same problem. My machine is less than a year old and we live in a very rural area where it is difficult to get service people to call in the winter. Has anyone heard if this is a widespread problem? It seems extreme that such a new machine should be needing parts replaced. Is this my only solution? Help! The water was not draining from the washer. I saw on this site where the hidden filter is. I had lots of gunk in there. After cleaning it out the washer doesnt spin or drain the water.

I have been using my washer for almost exactly 7 months, and I was having the same problem as everyone else, and I just removed the access panel and cleaned the trap. I was surprised to find my fiance's sock, a small nail clipper, a few coins, and TONS of lint!! I wasn't even aware that the machine HAD a lint trap, but I am rewashing my sopping wet clothes now, and the washer is working like new again. I didn't remove the pump myself because I'm not that much of a Ms. Fix-It, but i was able to reach my fingers into where the roter was on the pump, and it felt clear. I'm sure the adult sock had a lot to do with my problems! Now I will clean the trap every few months to be on the safe side!
Great advice. I took off the front bottom access panel and unscrewed the filter, it was completely clogged with lint... and a quarter. It is now working like new again! I took all of the water out of the washer with a wet vac first, then put the wet vac under the filter as I unscrewed it as there was a lot of water in the washer. It would be nice if they mentioned this in the troubleshooting section of the users manual!

Mike's3boys was right on . . . after emptying the lint trap of more than $3 in change and a small locket chain (no lint), problem was not solved until I took apart the pump . . . a broken guitar pick was wedged in the propeller section, keeping it from spinning (and therefore keeping it from pumping out the water). Works like a charm now! Thanks! We do an average of two loads of laundry per DAY, and the G.E. service tech wasn't going to be here for 5 more days, so this was a HUGE help!
My GE Adora seems to HATE both the WHITES selection, and whenever I put more than two bath towels in at once. I will start a load, but it will always stop part way through-with the light flashing.. I've wondered if I was just supposed to hit START again. Now I wonder if its a lint problem.

Everytime that I wash my clothes, I have to keep going to the laundry room every 10 minutes because the washer will stop and the start/Pause bottom will be flashing.
I love the way the GE Adora cleans the clothes, when it completes a load. I hear a click and the door is unlocked and the start/pause button flashes. I hit it again and it goes off again. When I wash whites and towels, water is all over the floor from the washing machine. The time on the face is not true. It could show 1 minute for at least 5 minutes. The repairmen have said too much detergent, too heavy a load, replace the gasket or they don't know what it is. I just want clean laundry without having to dry out the laundry room each wash.
I cleaned the lint trap and now my washer works for a few minutes and then stops. Any other suggestions?

I can't believe so many people are having the SAME problem. And, GE will probably just ignore us all.
I cannot get the GE Adora to cycle. The door says it is locked but it is not. I'm going to try to clean the lint but right now the washer is running (it's been going for 45 minutes even thought it says 1 minute to go). As soon as it stops (if ever) I'll check the lint but it seems like it might be more of a door latch problem.
Any advise?
Hello all I guess I am slightly relieved to hear that I am not the only one with these problems. We bought ours June of 2006, not even a year later we ran into the problems with the lock with the clothes coming out soaking wet and the cycles taking longer than they should. When we were finally able to get someone from GE out to fix it he had no idea came back 3 times and replaced 2 parts, he then proceeded to tell me that the GE adora machines were new to the market in 2006 and they had been experiencing glitches, so after replacing the door lock,1 other part and emptying the trap all was working like new, well here I am a year later and the same thing is happening again now however the door is reading locked but its not locking and its making a noise like it wants to lock but it can't. I am so frustrated I don't even know what to do....
We also have a GE front loader but ours was bought in 03 so a very older model and it doesn't have a lint filter. My husband just removed the pump and found a pencil!!! but there was no sleeve either in there or in the hose?? Some people of mentioning 3 screws just under the window but can't find these either. does anyone have an 02 or 03 model with the same problem (problem is same, no spin and no drain) thanks
Our machine is only 3 months old and we are having a problem with the door too. It appears that there is only one minute left on the timer plus "door locker" when it is not.
The repair man is coming Friday, but I think we are gonna get screwed with this hunk of junk.

One thing that is not mentioned above - and should probably be common sense - don't open the lint filter on the washer if your washer is holding water. I have about 20 gallons of water in my floor. But, I found $1.70 in change, 22 staples, 2 paper clips, 2 nails and about a pound of lint. Works perfectly now!

I had the same problem until I read the solutions on this page - cleaning the filter worked perfectly, was easy to do and the pictures posted by someone else with the same problem were a big help THANK YOU! I still don't know why the service dept. for GE told me to "unplug the washer for ten seconds to reset" - as if that would get rid of all the lint build-up!

My front loader wouldn't empty, spin, and then the door wouldn't open...this has been going on for months! Finally tonite, when the door stayed locked I got so frustrated, I did a search, found this site, and was releived to see that there were a lot of other people with the same problem! After cleaning the filter, the machine works like new!!! Thank you so much GE for letting us all know that there is a filter in this washer that needs a periodic cleanout!!! I've got a good mind to write a complaint letter to them, not that it will do any good...but Thanks everyone for saving me a $$$$ervice call!!!!!
My Adora front loading washer from GE will not complete the cycle. It washes then does not spin or drain the remaining water away. It will lock and unlock the door. I have opened the door a couple times and water has gushed out. How do I fix this???

I'm prying on the wheel quite forcefully. Can anyone be more specific how to remove the pump wheel from the motor if you need to, to get the washer to drain?

I was sooo excited when I purchased my new home and could not believe my "luck" when the previous owners left the most beautiful looking GE Adora Washing Machine and dryer!!! Saturday I happily went to wash my first load of clothes and all I could do is SCREAM!!!! NOW I see why they left this pile of ****! And everything that I have read on various sites says the same thing. I will try finding and cleaning the lint trap, see if there is a clog on the hose...but I am of a mind to just purchase a whole dayum new Washing machine!!!! Unbelievable!!!! This certainly was my "luck" alright!!!
