This unit has had this problem intermittently since we've owned it (about 1 1/2 yrs). It now will not initialize to start recording. It powers up and the power LED comes on, and that's it. It will not pass the video feeds through to the monitor, although it does pass audio. The HDD is spinning, but the HDD LED in not lit. Absolutely no response to any of the front panel buttons. I can feed the video input from cameras directly into the monitor and get picture; so it must be the DVR that's not working correctly. For what we gave for this system (499.99 at Sams' Club) it should be better quality. I don't think we'll look to Samsung for products again. It's obvious with a little research on the net that this system is plaqued with this problem and Samsung apparently doesn't want anything to do with them. Just read the testimonials of folks who tried to get help from them. I couldn't even find this specific system on thier security products website, or there consumer products website. I was hoping to find support info, but haven't found anything yet.

You have to hook it up to a tv monitor and change the settings through the menu. It will originally include a password just to get you on, then you will immediately have to change it. After you do that you can access the menu where you can change the output settings

If you are hooking your cameras into the SMO-151qn then you can use the pigtail cable to connect to the Shr-1040. Make sure the video out from the SMO-151qn goes into the video in of the Shr-1040. If there is a choice
use CH1. On the Shr-1040 hold down the mode button and press CH2 for about 10 seconds. The Shr-1040 should reboot. Once it comes up press the record button. After recording for a feww minutes stop the recording. On the SMO-151qn press the button on the front Live/Vcr. You should see the screen from your Shr-1040. IF you hit play you should see what you recorded.
Good Luck!
