The most basic tests you can do on a fridge is to check the temperature of the suction and discharge tubes. Sadly fault finding refrigeration is not so much complicated, but does normally require fairly special tools. BEWARE: of loose or exposed electrical wiring. Danger of shock. - But to do a basic test, feel the discharge tube, the thinner of the two compressor tubes and the suction tube, larger of the two compressor tubes. BEWARE: The thinner discharge tube might be very hot. It's expected to be warm to hot. The suction tube would normally be cool to cold. If they are at room temperature when the fridge has been running for a short while, you may well have major problems. Like low gas due to a leak or damaged valves in the compressor or a blocked line somewhere. Also note that there may be as many as four or more tubes connected to the side of the compressor. Some may be for water evaporation reasons, one might be a "tail" for connecting a vacuum gauge or gas bottle to. If the suction and discharge seem to be roughly the correct temperature, look for ice on tubing which might indicate a blockage. Does the unit cycle off? Meaning compressor shutdown after a period of running? Regardless of what conclusion, without the right tools, it's quite hard to repair these kinds of faults. Rgds, Dave.
Pull the refrigerator out and remove the back bottom panel. Also remove the kick plate in the front. The condenser coils are probably dirty (if you've never cleaned them, they are probably LAYERED with debris). Get everything cleaned out under there, be sure the condenser fan (in the back of the refrigerator) is working and see if that doesn't help. Dirty condenser coils can exhibit the exact same symptoms as more serious problems like a failing compressor.

First point: The entire fridge is cooled by the freezer section. A fan blows air across to the food section.
2) Every 8 hours or so, a timer shuts off the compressor cycle, and starts up a heater to defrost the freezer coils. If the heater(s) are burnt out, or if the safety thermostat (to prevent overheating) is open, then you will have no defrost. The coils will frost up and eventually prevent airflow to the food section. Milk goes sour.
3) In rare circumstances, the timer itself can stall. This cause the same symptoms as above, but this is not as common as the other 2 causes of No Defrost.
Sequence: Check heater continuity. Check safety thermostat continuity while cold. Check defrost timer operation.

look for ice or forst build up on the rear wall of freezer compartment, sounds like you may have a defrost problem. this will affect temps in freezer and refrig. the most common def problems for GE are bad defrost heaters. these are model specific and fairly easy to replace your self. i got this part number form Sears.com WR51X10055 good luck peyton
SOURCE: ge model gsh25jfrfww not cooling just clicking
Replace the main board on the back i got the part for $130 at a wholesale parts store
