The motor that drives the compressor is fine. I think you will find that the compressor itself is kaput. This was true in my case.

Compresser overheat triping

Hi!!

It could be a few things that make the compressor overheat, when this happens, the bimetal thermal protector shuts it off to avoid damage to the unit.

Some of the reasons could be:
Dirty condenser and/or evaporator (if condenser is dirty or clogged up, the heat absorbed by the evaporator will not be dissipated, this will cause the compressor to overheat.)
Bad fan motor.(not blowing enough air to cool down condenser).
Bad capacitor (only if compressor fails to start right up or not at all.)
Worn coils inside compressor.
System clogged or dirty. (If the system is dirty or clogged up, the compressor's workload increases causing it to overheat.

Don't forget to rate this post, Good Luck!!

AC compresser throws breaker

It could be a few things..
Might be the compressor going out ;o(
But could be the capacitor..
Its about a 4 inch part with 3 wire conectors at the top.. Could be round or oval and is usually metal & looks like a can..
This part replacement fixes problems in allot of cases & shouldnt cost to much.. If it is not the problem - at leaste that part is eliminated... Good luck..
