Monitor distorts colors and goes out of sync horizontally after 15 min

I have a 1905fp that seems to go out of sync horizontally after 15 min. The monitor is about 3-5 years old and displays beatifully for the first 15 min or so. Then it will distort the colors badly and there will be two images overlayed and offest by about 50%. For example, If I move the mouse cursor there will be two of them tracking around on the screen one in the normal position and one about 50% of the screen width to the right. I have tried it on muliple computers so I don't think its a video card issue. Also it seems to get better with rest. If I turn off the monitor for 5 min, I may get 2 min of good picture before it distorts. Finally, I replaced the filter capacitors that typically go bad on these units and it didn't seem to have an affect. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Solution: Replace cap. Radio Shack sells a 1000uF, 35V cap for $2. This will work.

Why did the cap go bad? The cap is too close to a heat sink and over heated.

What does this cap do? This cap sends a signal to an IC which keeps the monitor 'on' after the power switch is pushed. When the cap is weak, AC ripple voltage is applied to the IC and it sends a signal to shut the monitor off.

Opening the Monitor: These monitors are difficult to open.

The two plastic pieces snap together and must be pried apart with a flat screw driver.

After removing the stand, you need to insert a flat screw driver at the bottom of the screen where two slots are located. Then work the screw driver around until the two plastic pieces are separated.

Remove the cover plate and unscrew the push button circuit board.

Unplug the monitor cords from the driver board and remove the screen.

Unscrew the mounting screws from the power supply board and remove.

You will need to pinch the plastic support in the middle of the board to remove.

Cap Replacement:

Cap is located near a copper heat sink and the value will be on the side of the cap. It will be bulged up on the top. You will see burn marks on the board surrounding the cap. Unsolder the cap.

Install the new cap and solder. Make sure you connect + of the cap to + marked on the board.

Be careful not to solder across joints.

Keep leads long so you can bend the cap as far away from the heat sink as possible.

Reassemble monitor and turn on.

This should solve the problem.

SOURCE: LCD Dell Monitor displaying purple and green rather then picture.

sounds like your monitor is starting to go out. if there are any speakers near your monitor, it is likely magnetic interference. try moving your monitor to a different area and see if it still does this. if it does, i would replace the monitor. if it doesn't, just simply reorganize the area around your monitor and it should go away after degaussing the screen.

SOURCE: Display jumping vertically

I had same problem.
Narrowed it down to C637 on logic board.
Replace C637 or logic board.

Testimonial: "I don't know what a c637 is or how to replace it or the logic board and I can't find anyplace on the net that has instructions or even information"

When we turn our TV on we get sound, but our picture is distorted for about 15 min then it's clear. Any sug?

Your TV is about 5 years old.
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

The monitors inverter seems to be failing. If you look up close, can you see a very faint image of the desktop?

You should think about getting a new monitor it might be cheaper than repairing.

This is a older model and likely the first generation of HD set made by Mitsubishi---where the HD input is on rear (DTV?) ARE THERE TWO JACKS MARKED H sync and V sync?

If they are there set needed an external box made only by Mitsubishi for for later HD use.

Fuzzy area on right side

I also have this same problem.... I took the thing apart blew the dust out and put it back together..... no change. I was not able to fix the problem, but if you go into the color settings you can tweak back the red and green to the the heavy distortion to go away. It is almost unnoticeable now.

Good luck
