If you mean update your iPad to iOS 10, there are two ways for you: update over the air or with iTunes. Here is a detailed post:

Ipad 1 / 3g is limited to iOS 5.11 only. No idea if Ipad 2 can go up to iOS 8. Upgrading a older model with a newer software isn't really going to be smooth.

For the iPad first generation (A1219) before iOS 5 to update is only possible with connecting the device to iTunes on a computer. Plug it into your computer and open up itunes under devices click on your ipad and then click on check for update.

The ipad 1 will not update to ios 7 because it will make it run too slow, and u don't want it at the speed it will run, apple decided to not let the ipad 1 work on ios 7 because of the speed and it would also make it crash heaps.

no, unfortunately the iPad 1 is not capable to run iOS newer than iOS 5....!
there is no way to do as the processor is too slow to handle them.
