Sounds like linkage from shift lever to transmission or the bushings on the linkage points. A "sloppy" shift lever with similar bushing problems may be the problem.
The cable might be worn and frayed when the cable gets near the park position. You might need to replace the cable or check the linkage on the transmission.

All that was wrong with my 2002 Trailblazer was a 6.00 part my husband bought at PepBoys! It's the plastic grommet/bushing that broke that holds the shifter cable to the linkage...took him 10 min to fix!
That does not have a shift cable. It has manual steel linkage located under the hood, By the firewall on steering column, It runs down to trans linkage, Very accesable to do, Make sure you block both sides of tires well and use ebrake, If you move the linkage on the trans its free to roll...
The shifter works off a shift cable which is connected to the transmission. The connection of this cable to the transmission is on the drivers side looking straight up were you can see it. You cannot take the sleeve off. It comes with a new cable. Shift cable is enough for any parts man to know what you need. Generally this item is a dealer part.
