There is a VCR tape stuck in the unit for no reason ans the display states the unit is in the "safe" mode. Unable to use the VCR and DVD functions. Any one know how to unlock the "safe" mode?

Usualy you can turn the safe mode off but you will need the controll to do this on the controll you should have a button that says lock this is to stop other controlls working the video when you use it to turn the sound up on your telly control as sometimes these controlls will work videos as well so you put it in safe mode to stop this working on your video but it should turn off check the battery in your controll then try pressing the lock button once if their is no lock button you will have to contact the makers and ask them to send you out a owners manuall they should do this for the price of a stamp if you dont have the controll that came with it try one of the all in one controlls but read instructions to see if it can opperat the safe mode its nothing serius it just stops other controlls operating your video on the controll it should say lock or safe point controll at video press it once but without controll you vant turn this off hope this helps you a bit.................

there are a number of things that can cause this. If there's something as simple as a penny underneath the tape loading area (anywhere the tape sits when fully loaded) the sensor that tells the vcr that the tape is fully down won't register, and the unit will spit the tape back out. there is an optical sensor that goes into a hole that you can see on the bottom of any tape, and if either the emitter (the light bulb) or the detector (which detects the light from the emitter) isn't functional, it'll think the mechanism loaded without a tape in it, and will spit it out. If the loading mechanism for any other reason doesn't go all the way down, if the unit is unable to spin the heads or if the mechanism that winds the tape around the head can't move, it'll spit out the tape. This by the way is a free answer, if you paid for an answer and didn't get one, ask for a refund, we do have a refund policy. if you paid for a year or something like that, I don't know how that works, but I hope I have helped you. If you are still stuck after checking all the things I mentioned, please post a reply to this post and I will try to assist you further.
I've checked the entire user manual which notes problems like this need to be referred to authorized service personnel.
Myself, I would unplug the entire unit, put it on a kitchen table using a phillips (cross-tip) screwdriver to remove the top metal shell. Remove at least 2 screws each side and 2-5 rear screws securing the top.
Nothing like peering inside to see what is causing the VCR to get stuck and help remove it.
No release pinhole or tape freeing ejector will work if the unit's tape is tightly wound around some internal object or the tape is stuck because something foreign is inside the unit.
Best of success.

To unlock the unit, press and hold the INFO button on the recorder's remote control
for five seconds. The display will no longer read SAFE and the unit will
operate correctly.
Pro-Tect Plus™ Locking Feature
To disable VCR usage or to protect set timer recordings, the unit can be locked so that the
buttons on the VCR or remote control don’t work.
• To Lock: Press and hold either the remote control’s ON•OFF or VCR button until SAFE
appears in the display to indicate Pro-Tect Plus is active. SAFE also appears if the VCR is
turned on while the feature is activated.
• To Unlock: Press and hold either the remote control’s ON•OFF or VCR button until SAFE
disappears from the front panel display. Unlocking is the only way to use the VCR.
You mix te info with Write protected tapes.
Safe guard mode is caused by the motor that takes the tape out of it's case, through the mechanics and past the video head.
If for some reason the electronics detect that it's been done by too much force, the safe guard issue promts.
I am a sanyo VCR technician and i will share to you what i had encountered. the problem of your VCR is in the mechanism "slide front" unable to push out the ejector portion of the tape. If you can locate this part just push it so that the tape will eject.
