Kindle paper white won't move from the first page that shows up.

Try swiping your finger across the middle of the screen from right to left. This action turns the page forward. Swiping your finger across the middle of the page from left to right turns the pages backwards. I don't think the icon on the bottom is for page turning.

Frozen reset

If the iPad has frozen on a screen press and hold both the lock and home buttons for about 30 seconds. This will hard reset the iPad and it should then boot normally.

Overdrive media console is frozen on my iPad 2

Double tap your home button (middle bottom). When you see your open apps press and hold on the overdrive app until it wiggles. Tap the red X to close it. Then, tap on the overdrive app icon again to reopen the app. You'll be at your bookshelf but, tapping on the book you were reading will return you to that page.
