Keyless entry Need help installing into a 2002 Tacoma two door. Instruction are very vague. I bought the Avital kit with MES actuators but I'm wondering if I can install the Avital without using the MES actuators. Currently I can lock/unlock the drivers door with one twist of the key, twist it again and the passenger r will unlock. Thanks

If the doors are BOTH locking and unlocking by turning the key in the drivers door then there is already power actuators. The real question is are they factory or, aftermarket actuators. Is there a switch in the vehicle to operate the power door locks? If these are factory actuators then there is a gray(lock) and purple(unlock) wires at a white plug on the front of the fuse box, just below the fuses. You will need to test these wires while turning the key in the door. If these are aftermarket actuators you will see the wires in the boot coming in from the door, Blue and Green (standard) or, white and yellow (audiovox). Relays will be required to operate these wires (if no relay is present). It sounds like a relay is present already because you said that you can operate the passenger door lock from the drivers door.

SOURCE: my avital 4103 does not unlock the passenger door

Its not the avital piece that's the problem, it's your INSTALLER that is/was the problem....haha, got somethin wired wrong!! It only does what you install it to do! :)

SOURCE: I bought a used car

The Camry you purchased may not be equipped with a power trunk. Press and hold the trunk button for appoximately 4 seconds. The trunk should release if the wire is connected and, you have a power trunk.
The Camry (and other toyotas) require a double pulse on the unlock wire. If the double pulse is not programmed the aftermarket unit will mimic the factory keyless entry. One press of the unlock button opens the drivers door. Immediately press the unlock button again to unlock the other doors.

SOURCE: I bought a used Ford Crown Victoria with an Avital system installed and the seller told me the way the system was setup was using the keyless entry to unlock the doors as the only way to start the car

The way the system was set up?! Here is what it sounds like. If you cannot start the car with the key but, you can start it with the remote starter means two things; the car has a starter inhibit installed and it's active or, the starter wire is cut and isolated from the ignition cylinder and the remote starter is connected to the starter side only of said cut wire.
About the keyless entry; Ford vehicle have a battery save mode that, after 10 minutes or so, the GEM module goes to sleep. The installation of a keyless entry system on these vehicles require connections at the unlock, driver's door ajar/latch wire and factory alarm disarm and programmed to double pulse. This will wake up the GEM and unlock the doors.

What do I need to connect on the 5103L and what can I leave unconnected?

I would suggest you connect alarm , the door trigger ( usually green) - to the dome light wire that can be found inside the door. If there is no pin in the door it's inside the door panel by the latch and shows - when door or latch is open. It is also possible to connect to the dome wire in the ceiling but dome light delays will cause a problem or if there is no light. You need to connect the starter wire possibly blue red on this car, two ignition wires on the car colors possibly red and red yellow for the second ignition wire. Brake light wire possibly white black above switch pedal. Battery or constant possibly black yellow at ignition switch. Parking brake is usually required. On this car you will need to add a actuator in the driver side door to unlock and lock the car. Diagram is to use two relays, can be found on websites. Adding actuators to a door. You will need to disarm the alarm with the alarm disarm wire on the alarm the disarm wire on the car is possibly white green it is negative in the driver kick panel.

Detailed wiring info????

Hello Tom,
Power lock gray (- polarity) at white plug near fuse box.
Power unlock (- polarity) purple, at white plug near fuse box.
These wires will test only by operating the key in the passenger door lock cylinder, not the rocker switch on the door.

Keyless entry blinks dome light and does nothing else

The remote is fine - your problem is the lock actuators in the doors. They're a bit of a pain to replace - so, you may want to have a professional do it.
