The problem is the driver for the green tube. Without test equipment this could be hard to track down. Also the fluid is just to keep those high intensity tubes from overheating.

SOURCE: distorted picture on RCA LCD TV

I have the same tv. Had repair man come to my home in late april. Said it is the power convergence board. $225 for parts and labor I was told. Bad thing is part was supposed to arrive mid-may,then mid-june and now mid-july. He say's part is on back order. I'm actually going to contact RCA soon to find out if this is true. This seems to be a common problem with this particular T.V

YOu have convergence issues. Ok first question. IN your setup menu do you have the convergence option/ if you DO not then it can be a specail fusable link. fl231 if you do. next question do the picture bow in at the middle. if you do then it possibly a convergence power supply issue. next if you go into setup convergence does the crosshairs adjust up or down left to right on both blue and red. I if so then theres is a chance that it can be a convergence adjusment or a amplifer problem AS always THIS SET CAN GENERATE LEATHAL 380 VOLTS EVEN WITH SET UPLUGED SO BE CAREFULL.

SOURCE: Hi I have a 52

Hello clara7,

This denotes a convergence problem. I would suggest that first you enter the menu of your TV ad try to do an auto converge on your set, if this does not work I would suspect that the convergence ICs have gone bad and need to be replaced. I would suggest that you have a qualified TV repair technician replace the convergence ICs in this set.I hope this helps,Shuttle83http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com

What you most likely have is a convergence problem. The convergence circuitry is used to align your colors. What you describe sounds like that circuit has failed. Here’s a link to a decent video that will give you an idea of what is needed to fix it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6Wa8FvSz-s

I turn the tv on and it comes threw with a fogy green and red picture with very little blue. there was dust on the lens and i cleaned them but and all the lights light up but still the green and red. i...

TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Clear but only blue/green color

Do you have a component cable hooked up to the TV? (cable with RCA connections Green/Blue/Red/White/Red)

If so you want to check that the red cable is tightly connected to both ends (TV and whatever it is connected to).

Good Luck...

No Red color at all. The convergence feature does not work either. Lots of green and blue RCA Model D52W59

Red color gun has failed, which will make the picture over saturated with the other two colors(blue, green) the bad news is the three color guns need to be replace in a set(all at the same time) because if you only replace the red it will over saturate the older blue, green guns then your picture will be mostly red.Unfortunently in most cases it's not worth the investment, better off to purchase a new tv. Good luck !

Picture is red

If you are running component video, make sure the blue is plugged in and in the right spot. Component video works like this: the green is a black and white image, the red and blue are cover overlays to make the image display properly. So if everything looks plugged in right, then try plugging in a composite video (Yellow) or S-video cable switching to the appropriate input, and see if the image is still red. If so, go to the set up and set the set to factory defaults, and see if that fixes the color issue, It's possible that the color settings on the TV are messed up, with the S-video plugged in go through the set up menu and see if you can correct the color issue IF THE IMAGE IS STILL RED WITH THE S-VIDEO OR COMPOSITE VIDEO, otherwise the issue is a problem with the component video cable.

Green picture only

The projection TV has 3 guns RED GREEN BLUE. In your case the red and the blue guns are gone. So you are getting the green color screen. You got to replace the picture tube.

Blue bulb emits light, but no picture.

Phillips have been known for the coolant to get contaminated especially in the blue CRT. it congeals and your picture will become hazy and out of focus. This is something you an do yourself. If youre careful. If you would like instructions on how to do this proceedure. Let me know.
