Brother MFC-885CW, recognized as an MFC-685CW.

Connect the printer with a USB cord to the computer. Switch off the printer and install the driver in to your computer , during installation the software will tell you to switch-on the . Do so and finish the installation .
This is the procedure to connect the printer with your computer.

dear first un-install the driver, & restart the pc. then install driver again then restart. so after check it for your scan

You have to connect the machine to the computer using a USB cable and install the S/W you got with the machine from the CD. That will have a TWAIN driver and some scanning S/W you can use to scan a document in to the computer, then you can email it. Please see document called Software user guide on the disc. If you don't have the CD you can go to Brother website and download the manuals and the S/W.

Install the latest drivers for your printer via brother.com. Don't use the cdrom.

I have a Brother MFC-885CW also and I have changed the colour inks no problem but now I have just changed the black it will not print black.

Go to Brothers web site and download the drivers for the device, reinstalling should replace that driver. You mighht also try doing a search on your system and see if the file exists, but maybe not where the software is looking for it..if so, copy it to the location that whatever it is that keeps asking for it, is looking

Somethings that have worked for some Brother owners to get cartridges recognised.

1. With your MFC powered up, open it up and remove the cartridge you are having a problem with, then close the MFC, leaving it powered up. It should report that there is no cartridge in the machine.

Still with the MFC powered up, open it up and reinsert the ink cartridge, then close the MFC. It should either ask if you have replaced a cartridge or go into its cleaning mode.

Answer "yes" to "have you replaced cartridge?" and it should either "print" or "clean" and then "print".


2. The cartridge holder in the printer has an "electronic eye" (light sensor) of some type for each cartridge.
Some users have found that putting either permanent marker/sharpie/black PVC tape either on the area of the ink cartridge that goes near the sensor or alternatively putting tape over the sensor itself allows printing to occur.
The problem with this method is that the printer will no longer recognise near-empty cartridges and so will not warn you to replace them and so the print head may be damaged. This is said to work on LC57 icartridges used with the following models: DCP-330C, DCP-350C, DCP-540CN, DCP-560CN, FAX-2480C, MFC-240C, MFC-440CN, MFC-465CN, MFC-665CW, MFC-685CW, MFC-885CW, MFC-3360C, MFC-5460CN, MFC-5860CN.
