You need to reset the filter timer. Press the "options" button, then "3" for filter timer, then "start". The filter timer should now be reset and you shouldn't see it say clean filter anymore. Hope this helps.

The display is too dim to read. what can I do?

Depends if it was dim when new then not a lot you can do
if it has gone dim , you have 2 options
1 unplug it and put plug in front of oven door, then remove all cabinet screws.locate the display control printed circuit (under display)take photo of wiring with phone to aid reassembly ,unplug and remove printed circuit board screws and board, clean display screen and window ,if was clear then either obtain replacement panel or take panel into radio or electronic repair shop and have them check and replace any poor electrolytic capacitors, this usually cures older ovens ,but if 6 0r 7 years old displays themselves dim and need replacing.ps if good at soldering just note these capacitor values uf and voltage and obtain at maplin and replace all observing polarity when fitting

How do I increase the intensity of the green in the display on my Sharp Carousel R-1460A microwave oven?

This model does not have a brightness adjustment for the VFD display.

It may be a weak VFD tube due to aging or it may be that the rear of the display window and front of the display glass are very dusty.

Sometimes you can clean it inside to brighten it up.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Then you can detach the keypad connector (as per attached photo) then remove the control panel screws.

Be careful not to crack the glass display when handling it, or it's a goner.

Then you can use a soft cloth (not a paper towel) and a mild cleaner (not ammonia-based) to clean the front surface of the VFD display glass and the rear side of the clear bezel (display window) that's attached to the keypad.

Some connectors have a lock.

positivelock.jpgIf that cleaning didn't help, then you have a weak VFD.

We can replace yours for $74.95. Details are here.

Whirlpool 6mt 42 microwave oven digital display

It's probably a weak VFD tube but it may be that the rear of the display window and front of the display glass are very dusty.

Direct spraying of cleaners on the keypad and steam from the cooktop can damage the controls.

I always recommend that you spray non-ammonia cleaner on a soft cloth (not a paper towel which can scratch) and gently wipe the keypad.

On a Whirlpool microwave, the VFD tube is almost never available separately, so if it's bad, you would have to replace the entire circuit board.

On this model, the VFD is not available separately, so you would have to order a new control circuit board for it.

Not turning on has no power

If the model number is correct, there is a 125V, 20 AMP line fuse inside the microwave. Its usually mounted on a small input line filter board at the point where the power cord enters the back of the unit. You will need to UNPLUG the microwave oven and remove the exterior case to access. The case comes off in various ways depending on manufacture and model. I found this illustration at pcappliancerepair.com based on the model number you listed this question under:

http://pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

The line fuse is listed as item 47.

You can usually purchase a box of fuses at a hardware store for just a little more than what the manufacturer charges for a single fuse. 125V, 20AMP Slow Blow fuses are recommended.

If you have any questions, or need additional assistance troubleshooting, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: Make sure you take any resistance readings with the microwave UNPLUGGED and the component under test isolated (removed) from the circuit.

The display is dim on the oven. Everything works

1. Sometimes you can clean it inside to brighten it up for a while.

2. In some cases, we can replace the VFD to brighten one up if it's available for a given model.

3. The last solution is to replace the control circuit board.

For more specifics on the options 2 & 3, we would need your brand and full model number.
