If you do have 12vdc on the output of the power switch, you need to look for burnt traces or look at the 8vdc regulator. Chances are that you blew the regulator.

If the radio is blowing fuses then you are correct in that the protection diode may be burnt. the diode should be black and it should be located near the DC power connector. You should be able to replace it with a 1N4007 Diode.

Cb is buzzing when i hooked it up in the house

If a cobra 29 as indicated here what are you using for power for it? If a base radio as indicated it also has a 12 volt connection--if no problem via the 12 volt connection the fault is in the built in power supply the radio has.

All "Base" radios have 12 volt connection and their own internal power supply to operate off wall voltage.

Got given a CB radio.. from a trucker... im in the [UK] wanting to put it in my car.. accept the voltage difference... a truck's voltage is about 20-30-volt's.. compared to a car.. only being 12...

sounds like your in good shape if its a 12-14v output.. the things about people blowing up radios is they use 10-30amp fuses and hook them up backwards.. + to ground and ie... make sure to use a 2 - 5 amp fuse for a normal cb.. and go + to + and - to -...

What fuse does my maxon mcb-30 cb take

12 volt 2 amp kinds or any 0.5 amps even. You want it to blow fast to save radio from damage. So, any type 0.1 amp to 1 amp or 2 even. It doesn't matter; but a fast blowing one will save radio from damage later on.

What should lite up on this radio, on mine just the channel number lites up. Is that right ? Thank you for your time.

The meter and the channel indicator should light up. You can purchase a 12 volt wheat lamp at Radio Shack to replace the burned out bulb in the meter. Dont know how technical you are, but, those lights are pretty easy to change. Just follow the wires that lead to the meter. There will be 2 sets. One that solder to two little tabs on the back of the meter (these control the needle movement) and another set that lead to the bulb. The bulb basically just slides into a little square hole in the side/back of the meter. Good luck. Hope this helped. Lost Jeep, Athens GA, 10-7 !!

No power to cb ?

If the fuse is O.K. it could be that the input diode is burned....this is to protect in case of the radio being hooked up powerwise the wires have been reversed. Usually RED is 12 Volt POS. If you open the radio look where the power cord comes in....you will see the diode and I found usually at the Right side of the chassis, that is right rear with component side up. It is usually burned and if you replace it you'll be in business ! ! Goo0d luck.

Where do the 3 wires in back of my Cobra18wxst11 go? Can I use a cigarette lighter plug?

From www.Cobra.com

"Where do I connect the three power wires? (radios with 3 power leads)
Answer: Connect the black wire to chassis ground.

Connect the red wire to a switched +12 volt source, such as the fuse for the AM/FM radio.

The orange wire is for the memory retention of your CB radio, and should be connected to a constant +12 volt source. The fuse for the brake lights is usually a good choice.

With the radio wired as above, the radio will turn off when the ignition is turned off. The orange wire will provide power to the radio so that it remembers the channel.

If you are installing your Cobra CB radio in an application where you wish to utilize a cigarette plug to power the unit, connect the black wire to the negative lead (side terminal) on the plug. Connect both the red and orange wires together to the positive lead (center tip) of the plug. Your unit will function properly this way but will not retain the channel memory. When power is applied your radio will come up on channel 9."
