Magnet I have had a problem with my Garmin Edge 800 since installing these wheels. The 800 is recording speed and mileage at double the correct values. I am wondering if this could be related to magnet installation. The Mavic literature refers to their included magnet as being for the front wheel. My LBS (FitWerx) installed it on the rear wheel to be compatible with the Garmin, could this be linked to the double values being recorded?

You need to calibrate the sensor to one full rotation. Distance will vary depending on the tire size. Most likely yours is half the tire size.

Testimonial: "I wish it were that simple, Bill. The tire size is correctly calibrated. Sometimes the speed momentarily flickers correct and normal speed but it goes right back to double value where it spends 99% of the time. I am wondering if the sensor could have gone bad?"

I think your right See if you can get ahold of another sensor to troubleshoot. There is also a great forum here on the topic. Good Luck

Garmin Edge 1000 Speedo sensor keeps stopping well not recording.. then come back on does it for 10-20 seconds eveyr 3-4 minutes. any way to resolve. i have changed battery an still does this

I suspect that your magnet/sensor interaction is not as good as it should be.

Assuming you have the same standard Garmin cadence/speed sensor as I have I suggest you check your set-up.

The position of the sensor is usually dictated by the pedal crank - try to have the main unit to the rear where the spokes holding the magnet are nearest the frame. Adjust the sensor "arm" as close to the magnet as possible to get the best interaction.

Location of speed sensor on 1991 plymouth

If the vehicle is front wheel drive the sensor would most likely be connected to the speedo cable follow the speedo cable from the firewall towards the engine. If the vehicle is real wheel drive it may be under the vehicle somewhere on the drive shaft and utilising magnets on the drive shaft to detect the speed via a hall effect transducer.

How do bicycle computer work?

most of the bicycle computers use a magnet counter to calculate the speed. One magnet is attached to the bicycle's front wheel and another one is attached to the fork. With each tire revolution, the fork magnet is triggered. The computer then can calculate the distance you traveled, your speed and more, depends on the computer's sophistication.

Hello,

Do you mean microSD memory card?
What size is the microSD memory card?
A maximum 4GB microSD memory card should be used.
Does this only happen when the card is installed or does it happen without the card?

The garmin works off of a GPS signal. If you are not moving, the GPS signal doesn't pick up any movement . . . .because you are not really moving. m Therefore, the speed and distance is nil.

We bought a new garmin 705 and the speed records but not the distance or other features

The Garmin Edge requires that you press the start/stop button to record any data.
1. Before you start riding, press the start/stop button to begin recording.
2. Once you have finished riding, press start/stop button to end recording.
3. Create an account on connect.garmin.com and plug your unit in using the supplied USB cable and download your ride to view details on your cycling session.

I used my 705 on my trainer and it did not record distance or speed like my forerunner does. The 705 works fine on the road

the Garmin Edge series rely on GPS to track your location from point A to point B thereby calculating your speed and distance. Its no different from any other GPS unit which require a clear view of the sky. It does not sense wheel movement, so using any GPS on a trainer will show no movement and using it indoors will give you a bad signal. The sensor on the crank used on the Edge 705 is only for cadence and not speed.

There are two tests

705 first - settings, ANT+sport, accessories, check that cadence sensor is set to YES

press the reset on the cadence sensor and rotate the cranks - the LEDs should flash every time the magnet passes the sensor. if not its the position of the magent relative to the sensor that needs adjusting.

Hope that works
